Caution: Rant about to proceed. You've been warned.
Y'know, it's frustrating to try to find out any official info about this show. There's been so much speculation and wondering and such going on lately that I was wondering, "Wouldn't it be nice if someone from the mother ship actually kept up with the newsgroup from time to time, or could provide some sort of official info about the show to the fans (not media)-- thereby keeping speculation to a minimum?" It doesn't have to be one of the producers or writers--they're very busy people-- just a P.A. with a spare five minutes every week or two. Cause let's face it, the official MTV site ... well .... blows big ol' juicy chunks in the way it fails to provide pertinent information. Of any kind. The only sources for info are the tireless few who run their fan sites and pump people involved with the show for info (for which we are *very* thankful).
For example, the first season ran 7 eps in spring, then 6 eps in summer, then nothing for 6 months, then 7 eps in the spring, 6 more in the summer. I missed the second half of the first season 'cause I must've blinked during the ad, or something. Same thing (almost) this summer-- you have to check and check and check just to find out when anything is going to happen, as MTV's scheduling department is about as focused as a microbus full of stoners heading to, uh, we forgot... anybody got pretzels? Is this going to be it until *February*? Ye gods, it's almost as bad as some syndicated TV shows that shall remain nameless (Star Trek). Whatever happened to the concept of a "New Fall Season?" (As opposed to a fall season full of summer reruns?) What *is* Viacom trying to do? I always thought that you generated interest in a show by advertising it and then provide the audience with a gracious plenty of new and interesting shows, followed up by a few reruns to catch new viewers, followed soonafter with more new shows. Advertising is never done for Daria-- they only run the one plug for the show right before the closing credits for "Road Rules," but conversely flog CD, SAT, RR, RW and the other MTV "gems" over and over ... and over ... and OVER.
I understand that animation takes a lot more time because of its nature. I'm willing to wait for new eps if it means that they're done well. I'm just a little irritated by the way that MTV handles its programs. I just wish that the Viacom guys would manage the brand a little better-- or at least tell us when we'll get new eps. Surely they have a P.A. who can do that once a season or so. <g>
Don't even get me started about the new book-- I ain't gotta clue. <g>
