Well, yes i'm a newbie, who of course LOVES Daria, isn't it the coolest show, my fave character is Trent, yet I like Jane, maybe I should say the Lane family. I have a question though, in the end of the 2nd season i think, the one where Daria writes the essay 'bout morals, do you think she wrote it as if she was with trent? Anyhow, yeah i'm new, i'm 15 female, from Australia

Yes. Note that in Daria's essay she was obviously married (cf her mother's question as to if she'd be "expanding her family") but her husband was never named nor shown onscreen. By contrast her sister's husband was named. Furthermore, the exclusion of Jane from her fantasy future was interesting ... it's difficult to believe that Daria is planning on ending her friendship with Jane, but of course if she was married to Trent, Jane would be her sister-in-law, a status which would have to be referred to.
Daria didn't want to let her family, Jane, or Trent realize what she was hoping for. Understandable, since she (wrongly) believes that Trent would cruelly reject her. (He might very well reject her, but not cruelly).

It seems like he's a professor of some sort, which doesn't exactly seem like the sort of occupation which would attract Trent.

Actually his name was Marcello, but I had a different take on that anyway. As we learned in "College Bored", even in her fantasies, things don't go the way she wants. She probably knows deep down that this is a teenage crush that most likely will either fade away or just get nowhere. I stand corrected on the Marcello bit ... I had somehow become convinced that this was the name of *Quinn's* husband in the essay.
I'm not convinced that Daria's naming her fantasy husband "Marcello" means she feels she has no hope of marrying Trent ... first of all, "Marcello" is in the context of American culture a made-up sort of name (probably inspired here by Marcello Mostriani [sp?]) and all part of the general "marry the glamorous Latin lover" type fantasy; secondly this was something she was writing down on paper which for all she knew Jane might have eventually seen. Finally, I think the complete exclusion of Jane and Trent from the final essay (when at least one of them was in the earlier attempts) to be a tad suspicious.
As to who would ultimately marry whom, I think that's farther in the future than this series would ever go. If this were reality I wouldn't rule a Daria-Trent marriage out, but I wouldn't expect it either. But if anything like that happened it would be years in the future, probably after Daria graduated from college.
Actually, given the hint that they'll resolve the Daria-Trent plot this season, I think Mystik Spiral's going to get a break and go on tour, putting Trent at least temporarily out of the picture. That's the obvious way to "resolve" it while keeping maneuvering room open, and it's not unrealistic (Trent's mentioned a desire to get out of Lawndale before).

I see Trent going the way of most of the rest of the Lane family, who we've been promised we'll see before this season's over. He'll just fade into the background in some faraway place.
