I was just going through the list of newsgroups, and came across this. My server shows no messages, does anyone else have this and if so, anything going on there?

Sounds like a good place to start some binary trading for Daria.

I don't think putting whole episodes on usenet would be viable anyhow. Looking at the warez groups, large files have to be split over dozens of posts, and there's nearly always one or two parts missing, rendering the whole thing useless.

Call it paranoia if you want, but Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, and others have no problem with either forcing fan sites within their own mold or forcing them out of the picture. Sites getting Foxed left and right by MTV is well within the realm of possibility, and if that happens, you can bet your bottom dollar that *I* will be out of here for good (because at that point, I'll be thoroughly convinced that the "Daria" fan community is not worth supporting).

We've been trading FOX shows for awhile now.

I have no remorse for trading TV Shows, I mean come on, they were on TV! It is the same as just watching them, or taping them on a VCR.

I have little remorse even for trading full movies, since I think the prices for most of them are ridiculous.

I do not have cable, so no MTV (I have to ask my parents to tape something if I want to watch it.). I have broadcast TV, which is crappy at best even when you get a channel through. My FOX channels have the worst clarity, and I don't even get an UPN affiliate.

All I have is my internet connection, (thnx to my parents) a cable connection with AT&T. It was either that or cable. And I need the 'net.

I don't believe that MTV (or any others) should have the right to say what I can or cannot do. Daria is not available on DVD, but as soon as it is, I'll be one of the first to buy it.

I don't know about most traders, but I just download these files because I haven't seen them, and I have no way to see them in the future, unless they are released. And even then, I don't have enought money to go buy all these episodes.

So until Cable gives you the ability to watch what you want when you want, I have no choice but to rely on the kindness of strangers. (Who upload nice stuff)

Thet can take action against the ISPs carring the groups on the grounds that they are facilitating the trade of illegal material. You'd be supprised how much affect this can have.

They may have been on the TV, that does not give you the right to distribute them (leagally). Under most countries law you do have the right to tape them for your own use however.

I agree that the prices for movies/music and the like are to high with most of it going into the record/film companies, and not to the artists, but this cannot be seen as an excuse for lawbreaking. No I'm not saying I never trade stuff myself, just pointing out that your argument at best is on very dodgy leagal ground.

I am in a similar position, only have broadcast TV, though at least Channel 5 (UK) do show Daria, even though they are a season behind.

Humm you can't get the Cable TV from the cable modem provider, or would it just be more cost that is too expensive ?

MTV have the perfect right to try and control what they own, namely the copyright on the programs in question, the fact that they have been up till now reasonably lenient with the Daria community is a blessing. We dn't need a return to the bad old days when they shut down a whole slew of "Beavis & Butthead" sites, because of stuff like this. On the other hand yes if stuff was avalable on VHS or DVD I would go out and buy it...hint hint MTV !

Well the leagal answer to this is tough luck, it's still not a justification for illeagal activity. Though I have also downloaded stuff in the past because I had not yet seen it....most of season 1 for ex.

Please don't take this post as a 'telling off' it's not meant to be, I'm not condeming or condoning this sort of activity, but people *SHOULD* be aware of the leagal ramifications of such activity.
