You can complain to the ISP who provides the account from which the spammer appears to be posting. In some cases the message will carry a header indicating an address for complaints, such as: X-Complaints-To: [email] You should attach to your (polite) complaint a *complete* copy of the message that caused you offence, including all headers. Many ISPs ban spamming under their "Acceptable Use Policy" and will warn account holders and even terminate accounts.

If I've not expressed myself clearly, or if you'd like further advice, your own ISP should be able to help: ask about complaining about spam. My apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know.

It may be worth noting that alt.tv.daria is within the alt.* hierarchy, which has a very liberal attitude towards content. If people choose to post single messages (rather than spam) with material you or I might consider offensive, there is little formal recourse. Some people recommend that children should not have access to any group in the alt.* hierarchy.

Outside the alt.* hierarchy, a group's charter defines what is and isn't acceptable and ISPs expect users to post in accord with charters; and act against users who don't. AFAIK charters are rare or non-existent in the alt.* hierarchy.

Perhaps we should be thinking about creating rec.arts.tv.daria? Not that I know how to do that!

Very painfully. Creating a Big 8 group is a very formal and annoying process, with a lot of rules. Also, the very existence of this group could possibly hinder the chances of a rec.arts.tv.daria being approved.
