why is it that some of you can still post to messages that my server says are removed?

Servers (with the exception only of Dejanews, as far as I know, but that's a special case) will regularly "expire" postings. This means that the postings are deleted from the server after a defined length of time. If they saved postings for ever, they'd need an infinite amount of disk space after long enough. Expiry policies depend on the server administrators. Since Usenet postings don't live in one single place (copies of postings to a given newsgroup exist on every news server that carries the group) you'll often find that people reply to postings which have only just reached their server though the posting has been expired on yours. You can find archives of just about everything posted to Usenet at http://www.dejanews.com as that site archives everything unless the poster has put x-no-archive: yes in their headers.

I take it that you mean "what's up with" in the American sense of "what are they about" (in English English "what's up with" means "what's wrong with") :-)

That's spam. Off-topic, unwanted, inappropriate, often unpleasant and sometimes illegal. Complain to the poster's ISP if you get really annoyed about it.

Dejanews filters out porn postings so I don't see any. They're just spam, probably. You can probably just surf right over them and/or delete them or something. Nothing to concern yourself over.
