MTV web page report: New ep info.

The MTV site's been updated with some new 'ep info... I'll copy it here after a bit of spoiler protection (just in case)... also there's a clip from "It Happened One Nut" and the "Ask Daria" from last week actually works now.

[My comments. First one being "it's about time!". Second one being "dates subject to change, given that we're dealing with MTV.]

July 7th @10:00pm IT HAPPENED ONE NUT

Daria is forced to work side by side with Kevin at a mall nut stand.

July 14th @10:00 pm LANE MISERABLES

All the prodigal Lanes come home at once, forcing Jane to temporarily move in with Daria.

July 21st @ 10:00 p.m. JAKE OF HEARTS

Jake has a heart attack; a radio "party van" parks itself outside the school for a week.

July 28th @ 10:00 p.m. SPEEDTRAPPED

Daria and Quinn have to take a road trip to bail Jane and Trent out on a traffic violation.

[And we all thought _Daria_ was going to get speedtrapped.]

August 4th @ 10:00 p.m. THE LAWNDALE FILES

[And I thought they _weren't_ going to use "The _ Files"... :) ]

A series of strange events leads Daria to wonder whether aliens have take[n] over the town.

August 11th@ 10:00 p.m. JUST ADD WATER

The whole school goes on a mandatory-voluntary harbor cruise to raise money via casino gambling.

August 18th@ 10:00 p.m. JANE'S ADDICTION

Jane starts dating a guy, to the annoyance of her misanthropic friend Daria.

[Please, please let this be something other than a rehash of 'See Jane Run'... Hopefully there's something they're not telling us about it. I also would have never guessed the title, but it makes sense.]

I honestly didn't know what to think about that title

This episode scares the living daylights out of me. As long as it's nothing like Depth Takes a Holiday (Crossing my fingers and hoping the big red F stamp doesn't make a second appearance this season)

They sound alright for the most part (don't want to get tooo high or too low)

Daria and Jane, realizing that bursting into song is weird, and meeting the holidays is just plain crazy, uncover a shocking government/alien coverup. TOMMOROW on Sick Sad World.

More proof that Daria fans want new episodes as long as they don't do anything different or weird. Be a Sitcom Daria! That's what we want! A sitcom!

I actually kinda like DTAH, up to the point where they go to Holiday Island. I'd have rather seen something like Mt. Olympus, where everyone does _nothing_ except what they do as holidays. Forcing an HS metaphor onto it was "worse than a cotton-poly blend," as Sandi would put it. Having Daria wake up in Mr. O'Neils class while he's putting everyone to sleep with Greek Literature would be a nice touch, as then Daria could tie her dream into that - making the script a bit more blatantly literate, eh?

(for bonus points, she could wake up screaming once Helen tells Daria and Quinn that she's pregnant... :)

Nah... ya' see the synopsis isn't telling the whole story. While it appears to Daria that at first the aliens are planning to takeover the town, upon her actual encounter with them it turns out they just want to give the citizens of Lawndale makeovers, after watching them for the last two and a half years and noticing that almost everyone wears the same clothes most of the time.

Daria then foists them onto the Fashion Club, who eventually accept their presence (it turns out the Aliens are the _ equivalent of the FC. How convienent.) and they start to plan their semi-hostile makeover. Alas, just before they can execute the plan, the alien's air supplies run too low... if they don't leave right away, they won't have enough of their own air left by the time they get home. (Of course, they could just make more of their own mix using commonly available Earth gases - Daria notes this, but they're not that bright.)

So, Daria saves Lawndale from certain doom, but nobody but her and Jane will ever know what they did for the town. After all...

I've enjoyed every episode of Daria, including DTAH and D! I admire the way the Daria team can turn their hand to other genres when they choose to.

Hardly, they can do and have done things that are different or weird WITHOUT resorting to alien-of-the-week and talking-holiday stories. One of the strengths of Daria is that it is based on the everyday trials of a strong, intelligent person. It's at its best when based in reality. Now, I'll admit that aliens are probably out there, but how often do they really visit high schools on Earth ;)

I will give every episode a chance, but if any suck because they are about alien invasions; well I can't be held responsible for what I might say ;)
