This is information for any other Macintosh user (besides myself) about the new CD-ROM listed on Amazon, Daria Life Central. Well, this seems to only be available for Windows.

I'm bummed about that too..."Trent", my G3-350, is denied Daria Life Central too. It would be kewl if they had gone cross-platform with it because I would standardize on that as an address book/planner/encrypted notepad cross-platform.
Oh yeah, because of the crypto Daria Life Central will not be available outside of the US and Canada. Thanks, US Guh'mint!
That's brilliant. Once again, the International fans get screwed again. Sheesh. I take it that they're not even going to bother with a "lite crypto" version that could be exported, too-- I mean, if they aren't going to do a Mac port, why bother with the non-North American fans, right? *Sigh*

Hmm. I can see two motives for making an export version.
1. Sales revenue. 34% of those who've completed the online Daria survey live outside the USA, and can be presumed to be computer users(!). 34% is a significant proportion of the target market, ISTM.
2. Future export sales of the series. Products like DLC might introduce new fans to _Daria_, and consolidate the loyalty of existing fans. This might make it easier to sell future series to overseas broadcasters.
Of course there is added cost in making an export version. If it's a true international version, then as well as using export compliant crypto, you'd need a few extra lines of code to give people options for things like date and currency format (overseas users get annoyed fast if we can only enter dates as MM/DD/YY).
Perhaps someone at MTV reckons the costs of an international version exceed any likely return. Perhaps they are confident that the strong-crypto restrictions will be lifted very soon, and they can then ship the USA version overseas. Or, whisper it softly, perhaps someone at MTV has taken their eye off the ball.
