I don't want to shock people with an ontopic post but I was playing Solitaire just now (as you do) and musing, as is my wont, and it occurred to me that in Pierce Me, Daria's (and indeed Jane's) first intuition that Trent was calling her to ask her out was in fact correct. Their shopping expedition for Jane's birthday present seems to have been singularly lacking in focus on a birthday present for Jane, or at least it was only Daria who seemed to think this the purpose of the trip into town. Trent seemed totally focussed on Daria - first the dress in the window, and then the piercing. And later in the episode he talks about getting her a tattoo. All in all not the actions of someone wanting help in buying a birthday present and more the actions of someone who is trying to get off with their little sister's best friend.
Of course it may just be that I'm slow on the uptake and that everyone else realised this all along. I think maybe my urge to look for meanings was triggered by a programme about Bladerunner on Channel Four tonight in which Ridley Scott explains how the unicorn imagery reveals that Deckert (sp?) is himself a replicant. The true meaning of the origami unicorn at the end of the film was something I'd totally missed the true significance of when I'd seen the film in the past, and this revelation means that the film is after all not unlike the book, whereas previously it had struck me that the film and book were more or less opposites - in the film the angle seems to be that replicants are alive, whereas in the book humans are depicted as ultimately being no more than machines. (If indeed there *are* any humans in the book - another thought that has now come to me....)
