I was recently struck with an idea. ATD could have a chain-fiction Daria fanfic. For anyone not farmilliar with the concept, it's a story (in this case, a fanfic) that one person starts, then another adds to, etc. I havent really decided on how long each person's section should be, so i'm just throwing it out to the group for criticism/debunking/organizing. Any thoughts, or story ideas? I'm thinking something like the "moving to Lawndale" story, but i'm sure someone will think of something better. --- ~Po

I've done something like this in another newsgroup. It's fun. The main problem is if it's done through posting to the group, you can get more than one reply to the same chapter.

Joe Alice (handing cards to Dilbert): "Here--I've got a card for Jennifer's wedding, a congratulations card for Mike's baby, three birthdays, and a gender-change operation card that says 'Get Well...'

Well, i was thinking about that today as i was mowing the lawn, and i came up with a semi-reasonable solution. Anyone who wants to participate has a set time (one week, two weeks) to write up a chapter of the story. At the end of that period, there will be a set day that the chapters are mailed to me (or someone else who's up to the task). The first 5 submissions that I get will post to the group, and everyone gets to vote for their favorite once. (I still havent decided how i want the voting process to go.) Once one has been picked, it gets set as the official chapter number x, and we start the cycle again. One rule i might add is that no person gets to write two chapters in a row, otherwise the story would probably get somewhat dominated by one person.

What do we all think of this idea? --- ~Po

It's a good one, but you'll want to set a deadline on voting. Otherwise one chapter could drag on for months. A web-based survey might be a good idea, and a cool addition to the survey portion of a lucky Darianite's website.

This kind of defeats the purpose; that is, the spontanious reaction to the stuff written by the previous poster. I actually like it when the thread splits; the story begins to exist in several places at once, and so long as nobody is too anal about absolute accountablity of times and places, it's cool.

Some places it works, others, it doesn't. I first encountered this sort of thing on alt.games.computer.ultima.dragons, and it worked rather well. I tried to introduce it to alt.games.daggerfall, and we had three writers, so the thread lasted about seven in. I wonder how it would fare here? Poorly, probably, due to the fact that differing interpretations of characters would probably produce... an impasse.

I think that a story would be a good idea but it would be difficult with our different opinions. Like for example how not everyone (at least i don't think) is a big Daria/Trent relationshipper like i am and somepeoples stories might be aimmed towards that rather than a certian story line. I agree it's a good idea though. It would be fun to read. DeVitoFreq (Christina) "Oh Daria, don't be shy.Show me your boobs"--Jane("Too Cute"),"I can't shoot my own mother. Not with paint,anyway."--Daria("The Daria Hunter"),"I'm not miserable,I'm just not like *them*"--Daria("The Misery Chick")

If anyone that's participating doesn't like how the story is going, they can always change it ;)

Sounds like fun (I hope you don't have to do too much at a time, or I would run out of gas quickly)

But that could be fun, too. Imagine someone trying to rewrite the previous chapter....Daria and Trent are together, then apart, then together again.... :-)

Quinn woke up in a cold sweat from her weird dream. In Mack's basement. There was a crowd around where Quinn was laying. Suddenly Kevin ran in, and said, "Quinn, am I glad to see you! I thought they'd begin the operation without me!" She screamed, and... Jess "Morgendorfer"

After her heave-a-thon, she looked around and wondered why she was sleeping in Mack's basement and why Upchuck was there wearing surgical gloves and holding a bow saw. it was that damn Blue Raspberry Slurpee at the Second Annual Lawndale Medieval Fair that was causing these weird hallucinations. Obviously, someone decided that regular Blue Raspberry Slurpees weren't exciting enough on their own, so they added some sort of mind-altering substance to make it more interesting. Quinn groaned as the urge to spew overwhelmed her again, and she yarked all over her hallucination of Upchuck. Fitting, she thought. He began to smoke, and shrieked, "Feisty...Oh! I'm melting! Oh what a world..." Jess "Morgendorfer"

Suddenly a new hallucination appeared. It was Daria and Jane, except Daria had a fashionable outfit, contacts, breast implants and dyed blonde hair. In a high-pitched voice Daria asked, "Which is my best side? I know they're both good!" Then the sky darkened and it became quite breezy. Jane said in a Tiffany-like voice, "Oh no. Wind. Hair."

The racks of tie die polyester clothing, Jane stood ready with paintbrush in hand, the expectant eyes of the crowd, all drove her almost to the point of madness. "no, please God no" she murmured weakly, desperately looking for any way out of this awful situation. Suddenly the lights flickered and died.......
