I've been thinking about what's been said on this forum here. While I'm not immediately going to run up to MTV and Viacom and throw the Save Outpost Daria project at them, I'm not about to go off quietly. I'm standing my ground right now until I get proof positive the FULL Outpost Daria site is allowed to come back. If it isn't, then I'll give them hell. Right now, I'm just busily trying to assemble the pieces. And since I went to a baseball game with three of my friends and just got home, the only thing I've been able to do as of yet has been to gather the e-mailed messages. Thanks to all who've e-mailed ([email]; subject: "Petition") so far.

You guys who saw it remember the scene with the deranged DeMartino-like metal shop class who grinded his teeth down to nothing then fixed himself up with homemade metallic dentures and then drove himself crazy because the dentures picked up that radio station and so he went out to haunt the students of Lawndale High, right? You know how it was set in the '80s? Well...I did *not* count on the "Daria" people to include *anything* Duran Duran because...well, they're "Daria" people. But was I in for a shocker. OMG...I did NOT count on hearing "Hungry Like the Wolf"...but they played it...not once (during the scene alone)...but TWICE (also the outro to the commercial break). SHEEYOT. I was a raving maniac when I saw that. I was like, "OMG!! Someone at 'Daria' must've either picked up that there's a few Darianites who are also Duranies, or must've been a Duranie, or must *be* a Duranie, or must've picked that up by accident." And even though I'm oversaturated with "Hungry Like the Wolf", at least it was a Duran song. *grin*

Well it might be a somewhat strained connection but you'll also remember that one of the Daria alter-egos' is of Daria as Barbarella--"Daria-ella." At least we guess that's supposed to be Barbarella. And of course Duran Duran took its name from a character in that movie: Dr. Duran Duran.

But you'll notice that "Daria" has used music from a wide range of styles and genres. It was inevitable that Duran Duran would eventually be honored. I'm glad you finally got your moment, Diane. Perhaps there may be more to come.

Well, it's sorta understandable why they wouldn't want full episodes up online because they're still running the program. If "Daria" were some program that couldn't be found anywhere and people who had all the episodes recorded were putting them up online...that's a different story. But using graphics which are public domain, posting up transcripts, fanfics, character lists, etc....that is fully *not* FOXable IMO.

In "I Don't" (204) as it originally aired, they used Ani Difranco's cover of "Wishin' and Hopin'" for the closing titles. Later they redid episode 204 with Dusty Springfield's "Wishin' and Hopin'." So the Ani Difranco version only exists in the archives of those of us who were quick on the draw and managed to get a tape of it.

If they ever release a boxed set of Daria episodes on DVD I hope they include both versions of the ending, but I doubt they will.

*Neither* version would be on the DVD. Any episodes that are for sale (MTV-released Daria tapes, etc.) have their original music (by real bands/artists) replaced by crappy no-name filler music.

Hell, that's basically what I said about Duran Duran, and look at what happened. What I'm surprised about is why "Daria" wouldn't have already featured at least one or two songs from Tori Amos and/or Sarah MacLachlan. They seem to fit the image MTV might be cultivating for "Daria". Or at least MUCH more than my Duran Duran would, I think.

Actually, you know what the craziest thing is? I would've figured that if they would've used a DD song they would've used one from DD's first album, more specifically one of the songs on the second part of the album. "Friends of Mine" particularly.
