The name "Daria"

Hi, folks.

Does anyone know the origin/meaning of the name Daria? And, had anyone heard it before her appearance in B&B?

The origin of the name Daria is Persian, and it means queenly or rich. As for anyone hearing it before Ms. Morgendorffer... I've heard it for almost twenty years now.... with a different pronunciation (like "darry-uh") ;)

FWIW (not much), the christian St.Daria (and most of our western names come from christian saints) was a Greek. She was a priestess of Minerva who converted to Christianity along with her husband, Chrysanthus. When convicted of Christianity, she was sentenced to become a state prostitute. No one was able to touch her, however, because of the pet lion who defended her. She was finally stoned not quite to death, then buried alive. And what a happy story....
