Gypsy Daria?

        PIERCE ME has engendered considerable discussion on alt.tv.daria
as to Daria and her attraction to the bohemian life-style.   The word
bohemian is derived from a Czech word for the inhabitants of Bohemia,
primarily Gypsies known for their unconventional life-style.
Alternately, we associate bohemian with a person with artistic or
literary interests who disregards conventional standards of behavior
viz. Daria!
           In the episode THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS DUMB we learn that both
Helen and Jake were pretty bohemian in their day as well.  Sure, they�ve
adopted the trappings of conventional upper middle-class suburbia, now;
in the early 70�s they were prime counter culture.   It all seems like a
natural progression.  Different generation, different phenomenon, same
rebellion.  Maybe our Daria will parley her sardonic wit into a career
as the new millennium�s version of Hunter S. Thompson?  Or how about P.
J. O�Rourke?
