Heh. That's the funny thing about emotions-- just when you think you have them all bottled up and bricked in, they just run out all over the place like a tidal wave. Then again, I can't honestly say that I didn't think this would happen. I thought it was kinda improbable, but when you put emotions into the mix, anything becomes possible, no matter how improbable it may seem.
Mayhap the human heart is the *real* infinite improbability drive.
(Oh, God. Did I really just say that? Ewww!)
Anyway, if this doesn't stick a fork in the Trent/Daria thing, I don't know what possibly could. But then again, I could always be wrong. That's why I like the show-- it isn't totally predictable, which makes it more believeable. (And that's Good.)
The only thing that depresses me is what this does to Daria and Jane's relationship. It's probably *the* cornerstone of the show (IMO), and I don't like the way it has been handled in season 4, mostly because part of me misses the old dynamic they had in seasons 1-3. I guess the reason I don't like it is because I know all too well that this sort of thing happens in real relationships-- people drift apart, the center does not hold, all that crap. But in seasons 1-3 it was "us against the world," and that sort of thing appeals to some part of me. In season 4, it was more like "why can't she be more like me?" It was as if they suddenly became strangers and forgot why they were friends in the first place. I know that happens a lot in relationships. I just have to deal with it. And it won't dampen my enthusiasm for the show. Why? Because they're willing to take risks, and TV that doesn't take risks is bo-ring.
(And it's not like they'll be mad at each other forever, either. Just as in real life, friendships are always in a state of flux.) I just don't like to have to wait for things to be resolved. Another impatient American, I know. ;-)
Anyway, cracking good ep. Can't wait to see the movie. Really. I mean it. I mean, they might as well have stamped in giant letters, "To Be Continued." Arg.
As for the ep as a whole, what can I say? I love to see Glenn's eps. They always have a really strong sympathy for the characters in them, and it shows. He avoids the stereotypes. I wish he'd write more. I also bet that he laughed his ass off when he wrote this one, KNOWING the reaction it would have in Certain Quarters. Heh. Good one, Glenn.
Back to my hole,
rich.
Jane: You know, I don't know why people say we have a bad attitude.
Actually, i really love season four. The daria/jane relationship is so real in the past eps (going back to janes addition at the end of 3) D/J are just like me and my best friend....and we're going through the same sort of thing lately....i watch every week just to see how it will mirror again......Anyways, i cant wait for the movie!!!
