Has anybody received anything resembling official word (from either MTV or the producers) that Daria has in fact been renewed for next season, that new eps are being produced and that they'll start in Feb., or are we all just optimisticallly assuming that will happen until we hear otherwise?
After what happened to Austin Stories and Super Adventure Team (WHY is Celebrity Death Match so popular when SAT barely lasted a month?) I'm nervous about MTV making any sensible scheduling choices.
While I'm whining, how about MTV's habit of putting Daria up next to either "The Real World" or "Road Rules." Does ANYONE who watches Daria actually like The Real World? I'm honestly curious.

YES! I admit it! It's not all that interesting. But when you account for how often they're on combined with the massive amounts of TV I watch, it can't be helped.

Why don't you just watch less TV? Then you won't have to put up with it. :) One of my friends watches hours and hours of TV. It's quite odd, I think she must have 5 TVs all in the same room and watch them all simultaneously. Her condition is worsening, she has become a Sunset Beach addict and is converting all my other friends, one by one! They watch it to see what she's on about, and then they can't stop! And then they talk about it all the time!! Arrgh!!
You could have just kept your mouth shut, you know! :)

Because there's absolutely nothing better to do. I get home from school at 3:20 pm. I go to bed around midnight. That is about 8 and a half hours per weekday to kill. 2 reading, 2 on the computer still leaves 4 and a half to fill with TV's. Then there's weekends.
I've been trying to keep it quiet for as long as we've been flaming those shows, but my conscious caught up with me.

Look again. I said 2 hours reading. Between that, and reading all through school (honestly. I haven't actually listened to a teacher in 3 semesters. The likelihood that you will change the world is greatest if you do what you love as well as you can do it.
So the only way to reduce your likelihood of changing the world is to avoid living your life as you would choose to live it. - - Jonathan Sachs Send email to jonathan at dnai dot com. To email me, replace the 'x' with an 'a'.

1. The Chicago Cubs, and sports in general to a lesser degree 2. Reading (the thing I am currently reading is the complete history of the Chicago Cubs)
That's about it. Other than that I just sleep and watch TV. I am proud to say I haven't gone out of the house on my own free will since Labor Day 1996.
Well, living my life as I would CHOOSE to live it is a lot different than how I live it now (considering most choices aren't mine), so yeah, you are probably right.

How did you manage that? I always get bored and have to go out. I'd like to say I never leave the house of my own free will, but I always end up going out and stuff.
My house is too small and my brother is too loud for me to remain inside the house for any extended period of time. My general escape preference, like Jane's, is going out to walk or ride my bike (But not running. NEVER running.) Trouble is there's no where to go that's within reasonable walking distance where I live, so I just go in circles around the block till I get sick of it and decide I've gone back to preferring the great indoors again.
My house isn't small, but my brother makes up for it. We have to have a big house, a smaller one could never contain my dad's ego.
My friends usually persuade me to go out. I just got back from the shop half an hour ago, it's Karen and Wendy's birthday and they wanted to buy lottery tickets and scratch-cards for some obscure reason. Fun.
Ironic turn of phrase, considering what people tend to do in the dark.
Did they perhaps just turn old enough to legally buy a lottery ticket?
BTW I couldn't be bothered to add highlights to your pic Alli, so I've avoided the hair colour thing entirely by showing you in a hat instead. And my, don't you look cute! Your pores are so tiny! I think I finally found your best side (I know they're both good).
Yes, not me, though. We have discussed this here before....
They did. Although Karen could easily have sold herself a lottery ticket long before now as she works in that shop. Wendy tried to steal fags a while ago, we had a rather elaborate plan worked out, but she chickened out at the last minute. Or rather, the last second, she was about to take them but she didn't. Wuss.
Oh yes, wonderful. Yeah, I always carry a basket with me everywhere.
You'll have to make the eyes a lot bigger, it would seem. Apparently, I have large eyes. I believe the exact phrase used was "Alli's eyes are too bloody big for her face!" Oh, and did I mention that I'm anorexic as well?
I really like that Write Where It Hurts episode. The images of Daria and Quinn as adults are intriguing. The Merchant Ivory type film scene was good too. Maybe they should do a cameo of Room With A View in one episode, with Daria and Trent as the lead figures.
You sound exactly like a girl I knew at university. Someone told her she had "cow's eyes", which she considered a compliment. She was also very thin, and ended up becoming a BBC engineer. Her hair was curly though, not like Daria's. Hey, come to think of it she did Spanish too! Maybe you're related. She taught me all I know about using blu-tak.
FWIW, that scene was a parody of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility".

Yes but they also have beautiful big eyes, at least according to people who like cows.
And have big brown eyes, aspiring engineer, etc etc. And she used to wear a bonnet too, and carry a basket everywhere (I think she kept her blu-tak and other bits and pieces in it). I think all engineers carry wicker baskets around with them actually, you need them to keep your graphing calculator, walkman, technical dictionary, crocodile clips, soldering iron, tetris game, sandwiches, flask of weak lemon drink, colouring pencils, gummed paper, copy of Lord of the Rings, etc etc. in.
That's what I thought. So why did you just say you're anorexic if you're not? Or are we talking at cross purposes here?
So you live in one of those Darian households where parents bribe their children to do things? I suppose they're going to give you 100 per A level point or something. I must admit I've never found money to be a motivational force. That's one of the things I've always found amusing about the Morgendorffers, everyone has their price and their mum's solution to everything it to pay people off, like when she even bribes her husband to let her handle her kids her own way. Also when she bribes Quinn to look after Daria, and in turn Daria expects a kickback from Quinn for going along with it. One of the neat scene in Write Where It Hurts was where they do a similar round of negotiations only this time instead of discussing payoffs they're discussing which card game to play: "Bridge?" - "Gin" - "Hearts" - "Done." Everything seems to come down to bartering in that household, like they're representing commercial businesses or something.
No - my parents never give me money for academic stuff. One of my friends is going to get 10 for every A*, 5 for every A, 3 for a B, etc, or something like that, and most people used to get money whenever they got a merit award in years 7 and 8. But anyway, it's some company who want to sponsor someone to do Physics, Maths, and Technology A levels. You have to pass some exam, and then they'll choose who to give it to, or something. If you get chosen you just get 1000 to spend on whatever. I think you get 500 the first year and 500 the second, but I don't know much about it yet.
I get money for cleaning the bathrooms and stuff, but I only get bribes for looking after my brother when I can convince my parents that I'm going out of my way to do so. This isn't that hard in the holidays because I have to make him lunch and I'm never up at lunchtime in the holidays except to make lunch for my brother.
Well, I comb my hair and look reasonably neat when my tie is done up properly. :) I heard my Electronics teacher trying to convince this guy to take an Electronics A level because he got the highest mark in the exam, but he didn't want to do one. If they can't convince him, I've got a reasonable chance; my other main competitor that I know of will then be this spikey-haired guy who wears a KoRn t-shirt under his school shirt and I don't think he's *quite* what they'd be looking for.
I dunno I've never applied for anything like that but from my job experience they haven't cared, which is to say Meijer hired me for being a breathing human having attained the age of 16, and the library actually hired me on the basis of scores on a book shelving test. I know that's how the hiring was determined because my aunt says that's how Cheryl always determines it, my aunt worked at the Kentwood Library before I did (which led to her talking lots on Christmas about everyone at the Kentwood Library, which at least avoided all-out argument between her and my dad). Of course I didn't go to either of those in like my jeans and combat jacket either... so there ya go, wheeeyah.

This isn't a job though, it's a sponsorship or grant. You get the cash for doing nothing basically. In principle I suppose the idea is the company is trying to encourage people to take A-levels that are relevant to it's needs (and maybe encourage you to think about applying to them for a job later on) since there's often an under-supply of people with science qualifications. But you can be sure they'll want to get some PR out of it, even if it's just a photo of the managing director handing over of the cheque so they can get a pic of the company looking benevolent published in the local newspaper. For such purposes you can be sure they'd rather be seen handing the cheque to some neat upstanding citizen with a tie and combed hair than to a punk in hobnailed boots who has tattoos and a pierced tongue. (Unless of course they're a very forward-looking company, like maybe a computer games software house.)
I just have to find something to do. I can't stand being in the house with my family. I can't hide in my room because even with the light on it's too fucking dark to do anything.
Officially? No. But I have heard from two people who know people involved with the show who have stated that new eps are on the way, and will start in Feb.
Michelle Klein-Hass also pointed to a Hollywood Reporter acticle that mentioned that Daria had been renewed for two more seasons, but it wasn't clear if that included Season Three or not. Naturally, there was no MTV or Viacom press release. In fact, as TV Guide's recent issue lists all of the new shows and series with new eps for Winter 99, there was a blurb for CD's DeathBowl 99, but no mention of Daria. You'd think that they'd wake up over there in NY, and realize that with the right publicity, they could win some awards for that show, and maybe raise their status as a network a little. Oh, wait, this is MTV I'm talking about-- they'd lose street cred I guess-- never mind.
I think SAT disappeared because its ratings were bad, and a lot of people didn't like it. It wasn't terrible, but it's the kind of thing that you're either in to, or most definitely *not* in to.
I'll admit to watching the BM shows every now and then-- it's kind of like rubbernecking at a *really* bad wreck. It's so bad, you just can't help but watch, and you're hoping to maybe catch a little something that'll give you nightmares. Or something. The other reason I watched RW was because my old roommate from College is from Seattle, and still lives there, and told me that all kinds of weird stuff happened up there, and I was curious. (Again, just like at a bad wreck.)
rich.
Quinn: People are so weird!
Daria: Some people are weird. Some are just astonishingly self-centered and deceitful.
Yes. From series creator Glenn Eichler himself, in fact. Season 3 is on for sometime next month, and there will be a season 4 next year for sure.
I also count myself among the huge throng of people who apparently missed "Austin Stories." But SAT was really, really, bad television, and deserved its fate.
Oh, it's still on MTV late at night, as a cure for insomnia. I never could get the hang of that show, either. Apparently, it proves that no matter how bad your show concept is, pitch it to MTV anyway, 'cause they'll show -anything.-
That's a great line, Alli. Unfortunately, I think you just described MTV's target audience. ;)
Cool. It's two seasons per calendar year, right? Spring and fall. Usually 13 eps each ... right?
its
SAT was amazingly brilliant, but this is probably not the place to argue about it. As another poster said, it's one of those things you're either in to, or you're totally NOT into.

I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news, it's only 13 episodes per year. Season 4 will start January or February 2000 (assuming the electric and cable companies can survive the year 2000.)
26 episodes a year would be nice though but it would probably cause the premature burn-out of the production staff.
Unfortunately, no. If the past is our guide, Season 3 starts next month with a run of 6 episodes, then back to reruns until about June or July, when the remaining 7 will be shown. Then it's off to Rerun Hell until Feb. 2000, and the premier of Season 4.
