A Somewhat Tardy Introduction

I was reading this ng earlier today when I realized I never properly introduced myself to y'all. Of course that's no way to behave to a bunch of people you look up to, right? So I thought to myself, just introduce yourself now, you lurked so much nobody will ever know the difference ;-) Here goes.

My name's Mindy Catherine Preston. I live in southeastern Wisconsin, and I'm a superfan of Daria, mostly because I see little bits of her in myself. My friends seem to think I'm her clone, which is somewhat annoying due to the fact that I am *not* an animated character, and there are a lot of traits of Daria's personality I don't like. I can laugh at them, but I don't have to like them. My favorite Daria episode of all time is "The Teachings of Don Jake." I love that little monologue of Jake's - "This trail over here leads to an entry-level job. A little money in your pocket... soon you're wearing a suit and a tie every day like all the other FACELESS SAPS and doing SO WELL you're in DEBT up to your DISAPPEARING HAIR!!!! That's where *that* trail leads, Daria!" I'm 13, which I think puts me in the running for the youngest person on a.t.d. I try to sit down and shut up because you guys kinda intimidate me with your wisdom and knowledge =D Some of you just plain scare me, though... ten to one you can figure out who you are =P My parents are divorced and, lucky me, I got the good parent, my dad. My mom is now living with a fifty-something year old firefighter who looks like an alcoholic - he has the inflamed nose, the beer gut, everything. I have to go visit her every few weekends. I can't stand her because of what she did to my father and what I know she was doing when she was supposedly working late during my parents so-called marriage. I'm also an only child, which explains my selfish, loner, whiny tendencies... right? Or is that just me?

Um.... I'm done blathering about myself now. Really. I swear.

-Mindy Unfortunately, no pompous, arrogant, old guys were harmed in the production of this post.

Welcome, Mindy!

Now that's one I've never seen 8-(

Um, thanks for that.

Hey! How do you think that makes us pompous, arrogant, old guys feel?

(Okay, I'm using "old" in a comparitive sense, but is there any other?)

Mindy, it's good to see a lurker break cover. Don't be intimidated: anyone's opinion, civilly expressed, is welcome here (they put up with me, so what more proof do you need?).

Oooh, btw, you can't officially join our little NG till you've made fun of Alli's sig file.

Heh. I thought you couldn't officially join the NG until you have participated in a discussion about:

a.) The Dewey Decimal System. b.) The diets of dragons. c.) The ethics of multiple voting in an online cartoon poll. d.) Alli's love life or... e.) Any other current wildly off topic thread in the group.

<snip Mindy's intro)

Seriously, though, welcome to the group. Really.

Anyone else still not formally introduced themselves? I know I haven't...

Well, I guess I might as well introduce myself as well, while we're at it. My name is Ann Booth, and I'm 19, which puts me in the middle agewise on this ng. I'm a college student here at the University of Idaho in Moscow, although I spent the first 18 years of my life just outside of Washington, DC. I have one brother, who'll be thirteen soon. Because of the age difference, we grew up pretty independent of each other. I think he was around somewhere while I was growing up, but I didn't pay much attention.

Oh well, I guess I should get back on topic. I remember hearing about Daria when the show first came out. I read the article in the Washington Post and thought, "wow, that sounds like a really cool show." But my parents didn't believe in cable, so I forgot about it. This past summer I rediscovered it when one of my friends was watching it, and got hooked. It's hard to pick a favorite episode, especially since there's several I've only seen on RealVideo, but my favorites are: Esteemers, The Big House, Arts & Crass, Gifted, Write Where it Hurts. And I can't wait to see how they handle the season premier.

Okay, I guess that's enough about me. I'll shut up now.

Ann

Me too, I'm so timid I've been lurking here for a month and not even posted anything yet!<G>

My excuse is that I'm still traumatised from Channel 5 taking Daria off air!

But whilst everyone is saying hello...

Hello! I'm in the UK, and I would fall into the older section of people on this ng! I've seen about half of season one and all of season two, and I'm hoping Channel 5 will bring Daria back soon!

More newbies/un-lurking lurkers! Hello Jan! I think everyone's just abandoning alt.music.nirvana and coming here instead, or something, there's all these "old" people disappearing there and all these "new" people appearing here. Under different names. With different e-mail addresses. How odd. Which one of yous is DustedGrrl? :)

Alli "I only love pieces of things that I hate."

<delurk> I may as well say hello too. I've been lurking here since the beginning of a.t.d, I've seen it all, including the original Involuntary Celibacy thing. I'm in Ontario, Canada, where Daria is practically non- existant, much to my dismay (only been here a few months), but at least all the Season 1 and 2 eps come in clear. As for age, I'm 16, so i guess I'm on the younger side, or in the middle, whatever... hope they run Season 3 here, anyone else from Canada know if YTV plans to? </delurk>

Introductionwise, my real name can be found on Happydude's a.t.d reader survey (URL forgotten), which I would recommend everyone to fill in, especially Lurkers. My age has been previously stated as 24; it will increase sometime in March. That's as much as I'm saying for now, as I'm an intensely private person. Oh yeah, I have a twin brother. He does not read this NG.

I've never introduced myself either, anyone who has been reading this group since August or September knows *way* too much about me. I wrote a post last night in this thread welcoming Mindy that ended in a long rant about my parents failed marriage. It didn't show up on my server or Deja-News, i'm sort of thankful for that now. The sheer garbage that pours out of my keyboard at 2 in the morning amazes me.
