Ok, we're halfway through S4 (stateside), and I have some questions:

1. First & foremost, what is Tom's LAST NAME? Is this going to be a closely guarded secret - - like, say, Mr. Lane's first name was supposed to be?

2. If Tom's parents are sending him to a prep school, why couldn't they get him a decent car? Is his prep school THAT expensive that he can't get a car that won't potentially fall apart if it hits a speedbump? Or blow up like that Pinto did in "Top Secret?" Or melt in a summer rain? Or is Tom just trying to make some kind of statement by choosing to drive a deathtrap?

3. What sort of desperation would cause Helen to lose her senses and (in a thinly veiled way) ask for relationship advice from SANDI? (refer to "Of Human Bonding") Doesn't she realize that any hint of trouble in her marriage could become fodder for "that witch" Linda, once Sandi tells her mom about it?

4. Dare I speculate who Daria will have this oft-mentioned "relationship" with? ( Tom and Trent , and even Ted, seem too obvious now. Watch it be with Upchuck, just to tick EVERYONE off, shippers & nonshippers alike.)

5.  It's been fine seeing some of the characters from the 1st three seasons
(the Guptys, Ted, Artie, the Landons),  but when are we going to see:
           a.  Danny Moreno (Jesse's brother, mentioned in The Daria Database)
           b.  Nicholas' kid (mentioned on Mystik Spiral's homepage on the old
MTV "Daria" site)
           c.  Kevin's parents (also mentioned in The Daria Database)
           d.  Vivian Taylor (Brittany's mom -- again, the Daria Database)

6. Do any of the other characters besides Michael Jordan Mackenzie & Jodie Abigail Landon have middle names?

7. Does anybody else in Lawndale know that Ms. Barch & Mr. O'Neill are (ahem) doing it like they do on the Discovery Channel? (Sorry about that, but that stupid song's been in my head all day & I thought that I could purge it from my thoughts by emptying it here. Alas, it's not working.) On a related note . . .

7a. Is anyone bothered by the idea that MR O'NEILL is actually getting laid ?

8. My last question for tonight: Is there going to be a third Daria book in the near future?

Hey *I* wouldn't have a problem with Daria-Charles :) Humm Charles & Daria does have a cirtain familliar ring to it...(note I'm from the UK....so it is gonna sound familliar). What makes you say that Tom, Trent & Ted are out of the picture (the three T's anyone...to complement the 3 J's).

Yeah would be nice to see them, or at least if they where actually referenced in the show.

Possibly though not eveyone does have middle names, I don't and neither does my brother :)

It's the other way around. There may be more women ALIVE, but there are more males being BORN because they're used up faster. The technical reason is that sperms with a Y-chromosome are lighter and consequently faster on the race to the egg. If you want to tip the scales towards a girl you have to have sex a week BEFORE the <insert technical term for the egg getting into position for fertilization here> and NO sex after that. This works because sperms with an X-chromosome live longer (like women in general). So once the egg gets into position there'll be more X's waiting than Y's. What's so bad about that? I think it'd be nice to see an episode where Daria and Upchuck get together at least temporarily. :) It'd be interesting to see what Upchuck is *really* like instead of just seeing his suave act...

Yes I couldn't agree more actually. I did have a vagure idea for a fanfic along these lines about 6 months ago, even sketched a brief outline to the story, but decided that I couldn't do it justice, and that fanfic was better left in the hands of those that do it well. I still contend though that Charles is not as bad as everyone makes him out. The thing that really ticks me off, is that ther are common points of behavior that most people will accept from Daria, but not from Charles (bribary is the one that imediatly springs to mind). To be honest getting back to the fanfic, one of the reason's I kinda like Nemo Blank's fics is that despite him being an out and out shipper, I like what he does with Charles, and to a lesser extent Quinn, neither is painted as the devil incarnate like some other fics I have read.

Oh well all in my opinion of course.

There has to be a better way to teach a kid the value of a dollar than letting him drive a car that would never pass inspection in most places. Perhaps his parents could help out with part of the cost of a good, relatively inexpensive used car, or buy the kid a car & have him pay for the insurance & maintenance (a frequent solution that most parents come up with here). Or maybe Tom could just get a bus pass -- a safer & more economical solution (downside: can't always where he wants WHEN he wants; couldn't pick up Jane for a date at her house in a bus -- or COULD he? Hmmmmm...).

If I were to see the same sort of character development in Upchuck that I've seen in the rest of the cast so far in S4, I MIGHT not be so bothered by a Charles/Daria get-together down the line, like in season 5 or 6 (hint hint MTV!) . But so far this season, it's still pretty much "Upchuck... eeewww!" And ILAP only reinforced that. (BTW, how did he get those girls to ride in the car with him anyway?)
