Hey rich, I figured out why you've been missing Mindy's posts.

I've just noticed that *all* of Mindy's posts have really wacky dates. Like the most recent post by Mindy has the date as "4/29/36". Not only is it not the year 2036 (or 1936), it's not even April yet. So if your newsreader is configured to ignore those kind of dates (or some other configuration). then it's likely you've been missing them because of the date problem.

And Mindy, can you fix your date configuration in your newsreader? I feel like you're living in the future when you're posting them. If you are, tell us how has the world changed? Or has it changed at all? :)

Are you sure it isn't your newsreader that's mis-parsing them? I just looked at a few and all her dates seem normal to me. Eg. Date: Mon, 20 Mar 00 19:37:00 GMT

Maybe you're reading the time as the date or something.

The one variety from the norm that I've spotted is that the date header in Mindy's messages give only two digits for the year, wheras four digits seems to be the norm. Mindy does seem to be using beta software as her newsreader (News Xpress 2.0 Beta #2).

Perhaps, as Shez suggests, some people's newsreaders are falling over when they come across a two digit year.

Actually that's not a bad newsreader, wish it was still updated, used it myself until the university that I work at upgraded their newserver, and NewsExpress won't post to it anymore :) What I user now is a program called XNews (I believe, I'll check tomorrow at work), which looks and feels pretty much the same.

Acronet must use Supernews as their news provider, as they're the service given in the abuse header and bang path. I don't think there's anything wrong with your headers though and have no problem receiving your posts. The only thing that might cause a problem is as Martin suggested, that some people's software might not be Y2K compliant and be confused by the 00 year. That shouldn't stop messages getting through though, unless some non Y2K compliant news server is expiring them for apparently being a century old.

I think though that some newsfeeds go through buggy spam filters, as I've noticed that various people on various newsgroups complaining that they never see posts from some specific person. I myself stopped receiving posts from one poster on a particular set of newsgroups a while back, and I've never been able to find out why their posts are no longer getting through. As with the problem someone's had here, I could see the replies but not the originals, which was how I realised I wasn't getting their posts any more.

One of these days, I'm going to have to get into how this usenet thingie really works, and then kick some serious ass at whatever ISP I'm at if they can't get the darned thing to work properly.

Seriously, I played with my newsreader a bit, but I can't tell if this has fixed it... I feel like a true idiot now, but I honestly don't know what the problem is, as I can't find any settings that dictate the date in my newsreader's options. I played with it a bit, as I said, and I guess I'll have to wait to see if this is any better.
