Question re: MTV outside the US (Daria-related!)

Ummm . . I've been wondering: why doesn't MTV UK or MTV Australia carry "Daria?" What's the deal with showing it on C5 or ABC or some other channel? (or does the "M" in MTV still stand for "Music" & music only?

And are you getting any of MTV's other [insert sarcasm here] SPLENDID non-musical programming (e.g., Real World, Road Rules, Undressed, etc.)?

Just wonderin' (I apologize if this was ever in a previous post that I'm sure I missed.)

AFAIK, MTV UK does carry Daria, it's just that hardly any of us get MTV, since you need cable or satellite for that, and only a minority of UK households have (although the figure is progressively increasing due to the arrival of digital tv).

ISTM that unless you like sports, reruns, or US tv shows in bulk quantities, cable/satellite aren't worth the money in the UK, since that's what they fill most of the dozens of extra channels with. Basically it's just wall-to-wall Channel 5.

Well I may get cable connected, I have the cable in the house (previous people had it installed), but I don't have a box or anything. Because I figure that I'll get better reception from that than I do from my ariel, silly thing is it's Channel 4 and not 5 that is the worst :) Though maybe I should invest in a colour TV first :)

channel four gets worst reception here too.. but yeah, it's better through cable.

If you can get a reduced cable package (a selection of 20 channels instead of the full 40) then go for that. It also helps if you don't have any other vices drawing money out of your pocket.

Something else you might also want to try: tuning in TV channels to pick up cable channels (though this probably varies with the type of TV, cable box, provider, etc. Worth a shot though). We've managed to tune in the SciFi channel, as well as a few of others (nothing good though). All this means is we can watch SciFi without turning the cable box on.

Someone's also not paying attention; we still have the Disney channel two weeks after their "free to non-subscribers" weekend. It wouldn't be so bad but there's nothing on (the only thing I've watched so far has been "Peter Pan").
