probably about an hour and a half, with 15 minutes of commercials for push pops and tampax on either side (those were two of the notable advertisers on tonight's rerun...sorta makes you wonder who the hell they think is watching this show, doesn't it?).
Yeah though since Daria is billed as a Childerens program on Channel 5 in the UK, most of the adverts either side of it seem fairly tame. The thing that always ammused me about when Channel 4 used to show Beavis & Butthead late at night was that the'd often show an ad for one of those telephone chat lines like "Gay Exchange", if you know anything about B&B's attitudeds, you will see the irony of this :)
Another reason to get cable before MTV:UK airs Season 4. You should see what Channel 5 did to "College Bored", the word butchered springs to mind, fortunatly I have the official video and it's on there uncut.
Yes this thing pisses me off, at least when Channel 4 showed B&B they put it on late at night, and didn't cut it cause it was on at an apropreate time.
Though unfortunately, you have to deal with that generic replacement music. I always try to tape episodes off MTV (USA) via satellite and then copy them to a tape, pausing the dub copy while the source goes through commercials. Sometimes the music used as incidental stuff proves pretty amusing, either because of what it is or how it relates to what's going on in the episode (this being, of course, more rare than the former).

**can you find dilinger at the smithsonian or not?**
This sig quote is actually related to a minor legend, which is recounted somewhat in Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea's _ILLUMINATUS! Trilogy_. Essentially, the legend goes that John Dilinger had a very large member and that it's kept in a jar at one of the Smithsonian muesuems, and that only V.I.P. types are allowed to see it. The museum would deny the existence of the "artifact" to all non-V.I.P. enquiries.
Now, if anyone makes a fanfic on that...well, that'd be just plain sick. ;)

Well hey, in that case, don't read the book I referenced. It's entertaining, but if you read the book, you'll understand it even less. Really. The book is just a big mash of real life conspiracy theory stuff linked together with some ficticious data. Lots of sex and violence, but in a very surreal way. Can't say it's well written, but it's a nice diversion when you get temporarily bored with, say, Pynchon...

OTHO, the author also did a large softcover book collecting hundereds of conspiracies and such (name escapes me, as I can't find it at the moment). No mention of penis, but lots of fun stuff regarding Masons, Aleister Crowley, Federal reserve, etc. Some are obviously true (Iran Contra), some obviously jokes (Church of the Sub Genius- yes, it's reall, but it's a joke group ^_^), and many fall in the grey area. Well worth reading, and now I 'get' an old reference in the comic Cerebus :)
The chat room is even MORE informative. I stopped by last night to check it out (it was, I think my second time ever going in there) and the general consensus is "We hate Tom, let's think of ways to kill Tom, Daria kissing any guy is stupid, let's not let the characters develop at all . . ." etc, etc. With one guy chiming in about how having sex in a relationship before marriage automatically makes it unloving, and another person typing "WHO IN HERE HATES ME SO I CAN HATE YOU TOO?" Oh well, it seems atd is the last refuge of the sane Daria fan, if such a thing does indeed exist. :) Hey, at least last night was better than the other time I dropped in to say hi in that room, when a girl was discussing all the Daria characters she'd sleep with. And since I know you want to know, it was Tom, Trent, Jamie, Jeffy, and Joey. She'd consider Tiffany if she was a guy, and she stopped short of Mr. O'Neill, thank god.
She didn't mention Kevin or Mack. I think those 5 are enough for anyone myself . . . maybe even a bit too much. I think after those 5, the conversation turned to Trent kicking Tom's ass (can I say ass here?) and yes, the words "Tom's tight little buttocks" did make an appearance. But not out of MY mouth!
Must drop in there again at some point, seemed pretty innane last time I was there too, also the average age was well...less than half mine :) which would of menat watching my P's and Q's :)
Nah, Tom's cool, and I kinda like him as a potential partner for Daria, more than I did Trent, hell I though Ted would have been more suited than Trent. Don't get me wrong I like our nacoleptic musical friend, I jsut don't think he and Daria are a perticually good match that's all.
Jellousy that she's getting some and they're not :) ....ok [holds hand in the air] guilty your honor :) <Butthead> uhuhhuhu ^^^ uuhhuhuhuhu</Butthead>
Better not tell my parents then, they lived together for 20odd years, being perfectly loving, and not being married (at least to each other).
Sounds like one of Andrea's poems :)
Yeah we're still here :)
Humm Daria, Quinn maybe in a couple of years, when she's alittle more mature, also Amy :)
All at the same time ???? She's gonna need an emporor sized bed then, this is starting to sound like a really bad porn movie :)
Actually, the room is a mass of people making comments who cauldn't care less about their p's and q's . . . I doubt you'd even be noticed. :)
Yep, because according to them, Daria even LOOKING at a guy goes against everything the show stands for. Baaaah, yeah right . . . they just can't believe that Daria can get a hottie like Tom and they can't.
a
A group of sane Daria fans? How will I ever fit in here?
better than
Amy? Oh, was that Daria's aunt? I remember her now . . . see, this is why they need to rerun all the old episodes again. I say, all day Daria marathon right before the movie . . . every single ep! I know I've missed some good ones. Most of season 3, actually.
And since I know
like
It was accompanied by shouts of "HENTAI! HENTAI!!!" There's hentai for everything out there, you know it? You do a simple search for Futurama sounds, and you wouldn't believe what Dogpile comes up with. Not that I looked. Nope. Not me.
She'd
I can't even imagine the show taking that Dawson's Creek twist. *shudders*
Sounds like fun.... Did anyone try to enter that Lawndale Dream Vacation Contest? At first I thought it was a cool idea, then I read that it has to be less than 100 words... Christ!!! This post is almost 100 words long! I can't even think of anything worth writing less than 100 words... I had some killer ideas too... It's probably not really based on talent though, just toss the names in a hat style, I'm guessing...

less than a hundred? guess i won't finish that first draft i was working on, then. this is starting to sound like an assignment from my high school creative writing class a few years ago. let's see, how would i have handled this then?.....
Interesting! Does this mean there there is little or no crossmembership between the chatroom and ATD? Never the twain shall meet, etc etc etc.
If so there is the alarming prospect that MTV may assume chatroom opinion alone represents 'the voice of the Daria fan'. If something Kennyish happens to Tom, we'll know for sure.
They have I believe admitted as muchm cirtainly they know of Outpost Daria's existance.
I dunno, I mean Kenny comes back next week anyway, so as long as the same was done for Tom would be okish....maybe as a plot to one of the fantasy eps like "Depth Takes a Holiday" and "Murder, She Snored".
Question: Why does Ms. Barch call O'Neill "Skinny?" I don't think he's _that_ skinny, at least not from I saw in that clip from "Is It Fall Yet?" on the MTV site. (BTW, I haven't gone NEAR that message board, and after what I've read here, I have very little inclination to check it out.)
(BTW pt. 2: regarding that clip from the movie -- I REALLY could've done without seeing that opening close -up shot of you-know-who shaking their bon-bon. {Insert shudder here} )
She hates men, because she fears that they all want to hurt women. In order to love O'Neill, she has to put him down in some way and view him as not entirely "masculine"; only thus can she let him through her defenses.
My question is whether or not the "movie" is going to be letterboxed. Given it's made for tv, there's no reason to make it in that format unless it was filmed for HDTV.
well, the push pops advert shows a bunch of seven-year old kids freaking out on a sugar rush. and it was that godawful "all in one box" ad, with the rain outside the window, right after it. around the 4th of july, it was the trojan magnums/fireworks ad followed by ads for candy and whatnot. so i guess they were targeting the sexually (hyper)active children market or something. it's sorta funny, really. like they don't know what the hell to do with the show.
