I'm designing a 2D-fighting game based on Daria, but artistic talent is coming up short, and I simply cannot draw anything decent. So, if anyone wants to draw basic designs of Daria cast members at least 122 times with Microsoft Paintbrish, Adobe, Paintshop Pro, anything that gets the job done, please E-Mail me.

Point. But then, Unix doesn't show up much outside of the server-world, and why would Windoze users bother with something not officially endorsed by King Gates?
I hadn't heard of there being a Windows version of GIMP. Do you know where I can get a copy? I'd like to try it and I don't have Linux installed yet.

Unfortunately they don't have links on www.gimp.org but I spotted some pages as I entered "Gimp win32" in yahoo. As I see it there are at least 2 different ports, one that requires an X server for windows (I think there is one called Metro X available for free) and one that is Windows-native. Maybe you should do a dejanews query on "Gimp win32" I'm sure this is an FAQ in the Gimp newsgroup. Personally, I can only recommend Gimp. It's a great program, except for the missing on-line help (I think it's missing, but I must admit that I haven't really looked for it, yet, the .pdf manual is perfectly adequate) it's a professional application that could be commercial, not one of those geeky no-fun-to-use programs so common under Unix. Especially the Layers feature is very practical. You don't get around flying over the pages of the manual, though, especially the sections on (floating) selections and layers. Before I read the manual I often encountered this strange phenomenon that the paint tools didn't seem to work. This happens if you accidentally float a selection and/or have the Keep Transparent option on (default for floats, watch out for it if you create a new layer from a float or you won't be able to paint over transparent regions). So even if you don't intend to use multiple layers you should always open the "Layers and Channels" dialog because it is responsible for floating selections and said Keep Trans option. If the above has confused you and you think that the program might be too complicated I want to assure you that I am a total amateur. Before I turned to Gimp I used MS Paint (yes, the little program that comes with Win95). It took me one day to get a coarse overview of the manual and a few days practice till I knew how to do all the things I usually need but now I feel rather comfortable with it. If I can do it, everyone can. MSB
p.s.: I do have to mention that I miss the easy way DPaint had for working with brushes (just mark it and you can immediately draw shapes with the marked region as a brush). This is a feature that I have not seen in any modern paint program. The pros don't seem to need it so no one bothers including it in a program.

GIMP sounds very similar to Photoshop.

That's what it's supposed to be, a free (in the GNU sense) replacement for Photoshop (is that available for Unix anyway?). MSB

GIMP is a Linux graphic editor. Supposed to be a damn good editor.
Haven't tried it myself, but I may look into it.

I'm actually a cartoonist and I could conceivably draw Daria. I also actually do know how to do character animation (went to college for it) and I have photoshop and stuff, but...
...a daria *fighting* game? Like Street Fighter? That's just very strange. I simply can't imagine it.
But that gets me thinking, maybe I can do some Daria animated gifs!!! With real character motion!!
