Looking for a decent Daria newsfeed...

Hate to get off the subject of Daria for a minute, but I seem to have a lousy newsfeed for the newsgroup. Does anyone know of a decent newsfeed (non-web based) that I can use to download the newsgroup using Netscape? Thanks.

You could try Demon's public server, pubnews.demon.co.uk I think it's a read-only one though, so you'd have to send posts via your regular method.

Humm most non-web based public newsservers seem to be either read only or pay services, prolly to prevent people spamming from them.

It's the old "you get what you pay for" thing - to get their fast news server you need to sign up for a Demon account and pay 12 pounds a month. Demon do pride themselves on carrying a full newsfeed, but the pubnews server is probably running on an old Sinclair Spectrum in a backroom somewhere, whereas customers are serviced by a network of dedicated machines known as the Newsborg.

I was just looking at the Demon FAQ and apparently there is also a pubnews.demon.nl at the Dutch end of Demon's operation. You could try that instead, it might conceivably be faster to access as it's closer to you.

I recomend using news.cis.dfn.de. You have to go to this web page: http://news.cis.dfn.de/ and follow the directions to sign up. They require you to use your real name & E-mail address, though. Once your signed up (be sure to ask for english, since they are a German server) they send you and E- mail, which tells you your account name & password. Then they give you the address of a page that tells you how to configure it if you don't already know. Once thats over with you can Read & post. And of course, (thanks to ME!) they have alt.tv.daria!!

Of course, as a spokesperson for them I suck, because I'm posting through Deja (which also sucks) but that's just because I'm greedy and want to "Get Paid to Surf the Web" (see sig). Hmm this post looks like Spam. Anyway hope this helps you.
