There was an advertisement for "Fat Like Me" on MTV this morning (while I was watching "Sappy Anniversary" for the second time), and in it, Mr. DeMartino asked a question about the Great Depression. I think it was a question about what were the factors behind it. Brittany asked if it was because people had lost so much money that they got depressed! That made me lol! Typical Brittany. :)

Too bad the ad ended before Mr. DeMartino's (presumed) predictable blow-up over Brittany's stupid answer. :(

Actually, this goes to show that Brittany is smarter than Kevin. Brittany knows that people lost a lot of money in the Depression, and that depression also means extreme sadness. I seriously doubt Kevin knows either of these things.

I'm afraid I must disagree with you on Brittany being smarter that her "Kev(y)ie". Why? She's *still* with the idiot! After seeing the stupid things that he's done throughout the run of the show, Brittany stays beside him. Of course, then again, those two probably deserve one another. Thanks.

Well, I think Brittany's somewhat brighter than Kevin -- but not very much. It is true that she knows that depression means sadness and that she connects the people losing money to that sadness, so she has enough intelligence to do that! The problem is that she may not know the other meaning of depression! If she does, then her mistake is in taking the WRONG meaning of depression.

As for her staying with Kevin, well, she seems to be madly in love with him (for the most part, at least), and I have heard that love OR attraction makes even intelligent people do stupid things. Look at what happened in Tom's car in "Dye! Dye! My Darling!" Daria's very intelligent, and yet she got herself into that mess, partly due to an unacknowledged attraction to Tom. How much more would someone like Brittany be stupid enough to stay with Kevin simply because she loved him.

Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one screaming at the television screen "Girl, don't get in that car!!" during the scene outside of Daria's house.

We knew how the scene was going to play out.

And yes, it seems that when emotions take hold even the smartest people, like Daria, end up not thinking as clearly.

The end of Season 4 and 'Sappy Anniversary' proved that.

The whole end of Season 4 and SA definitely proved that emotions can cloud the thinking of even the smartest people, such as Daria and Tom (more the end of Season 4 than SA in Tom's case). How much more then can it cloud the judgment of less smart people.
