For those not in the know, Daria Life Central is finally available on Amazon.com after being back-ordered for a month. There's already a customer review there.. something about a mother finding the software for her daughter at some computer fair. I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about this computer fair that she referred to. Seems curious that others have seen this software in a fair when it was back-ordered on the net!
As said before, it's only a Windows compatible CD-ROM.. kinda sad really, but that's how it is. I don't mind too much since I use Windows, but it would've been better if it was cross platform.
Ok folks.. a week and a half more, and I'll be on holiday! *hurrah* So see you guys in a month or so, k? :)
ps: although I'm not really looking forward to the 20 hour flight.. blech.

Yeah I know.. In actuality, it's about a 12 hour flight from SF to Taipei, and then its about a 3 hour wait until the next flight from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur which takes about another 5 hours. I kinda summed it all up to 20 hours from SF to Kuala Lumpur. Here's hoping no luggage gets lost and no flights get cancelled :P As for the movies.. as long as it isn't another romantic comedy, I'll be alright.

My first encounter with the software was less than perfect. It kept on having these error messages that read "unsupported device" or something similar. And I couldn't see anything at all. So I uninstalled it from my C drive (which is close to full), and re-installed it on my E drive which is rather empty. And *then* it worked. I think it requires something like 45 KB of space.
So after that, it worked, and I was happy as a lark. I ooh-ed and aah-ed over the design, and laughed when I heard Daria's holiday greeting (it went something like "Best wishes in this season of joy. Hope you don't get hypothermia"). Then I tried to play a movie clip. And nothing happened, no movie clip or anything. So I closed all my other applications, and tried it again, and *then* it worked. My guess is that even though the minimum system requirements is 16MB RAM, you can bet you'd need more than that if you want to run this thing smoothly. I have about 32MB on my system now, and about half of that is probably sucked up by Windows. I'll probably need more RAM soon :/
All in all, it's pretty cool software. The calendar and planner are integrated, and it's easy to use. The address book has some cool features like personal profiles and an e-mail list. The journal is pretty standard and has some interesting things like Question of the Day (today's was "What's the most impressive thing that you said today and who heard you?"). I wouldn't recommend this, however, if you're not planning to use any of this stuff. I know some folks just don't use organizers and planners all that much. But for those who do - this is perfect.
In my opinion, the movie and sound clips make this pretty worth it already. The movie clips are mostly from the show, and it's great to have these bright and clear ones instead of the fuzzy ones that you get from real player. The sound clips are original stuff, however. An example of this would be when I clicked the SSW fact of the day for today - Dec 10th - and got:

When I clicked the "Quick Thoughts" button, I heard Daria's voice saying:
"If she'd ever found her way to Hallmark, birthday cards would be a lot more fun."

Okay folks. An update on the software. Guess what? MTV screwed up, again.
In the Address book section of the CD-ROM, there's supposed to be a Personal Profiles function - which allows you to compile a personal profile on each person in your address book. I knew about this by sifting through the Help section of the software. So I dutifully went over to the Address Book only to find that the icon and the function for this Personal Profiles function is - you guessed it - missing.
So I called up the tech support line at Simon & Schuster Interactive. I told them about the problem, and was put on hold for about 20 minutes. When they got back to me, the guy said that they had the exact same problem - that they too could not find the function even though the program said they would. He expressed his surprise, and told me he didn't expect that they themselves could not find it. He told me that he's going to contact the guys who programmed the software and ask them what's going on. I had already given him my e-mail address so that he'll contact me of any additional information. His opinion is that either the software is corrupted or someone had screwed up the release. In addition to the Personal Profiles icon, the Sort icon is also missing. If any of you guys have the same problem, please tell me so that I know that this isn't an isolated case.
And if it isn't, then what the hell is going on? I know software mess-ups occur all the time, but I guess I feel like I'm getting screwed over once too often by MTV. I don't know if this MTV's fault or S&S's fault though.
I just hope that when they do release the proper and correct version of the software, I'll get a refund or exchange of some sort. Otherwise, any of you guys want a second hand CD-ROM?

Heh ... depends on the romantic comedy, in my opinion. I don't like them all, but some are genuinely funny. I agree with you on the Olsen Twins, though :)
I bring books with me everywhere I travel. I also sleep well on moving vehicles.
