The idea is to get MTV to release Daria -- complete, uncut, with goodies -- on DVD.
The criticism has been leveled that Web petitions don't work. Well, some say they do, but whatever -- here's the address to write to via mail to politely insist that MTV do it's duty by Daria:

If MTV sees a DVD preorder that equals whatever their licensing rights would return, then they probably would release a DVD. Can you get a DVD preorder commitment equal to, say, ten million dollars? If not; then there's always the web, and the DVD Burner in your garage.
Understand; MTV is in the business of holding its most popular properites for ransom against the highest bidder. They are absolutely NOT nice people. Daria will not appear in our lives again, unless there's money in it for MTV. This is one of those nasty life-lessons that many young republicans need to learn about their favorite people and the companies that own them.
Ain't it the truth! However, we still have to TRY. There are those who think this petition thing might work. Then there are those who believe we're just pissing in the wind.
However, just to sit and do nothing is just as bad.

Yeah you can say that but look at the overseas market. In the UK alone they are releasing 3 new videos released this summer.
The first one Daria - Best Friends has already been released.
The next ones "Daria - Crushed" will be released in early June and "Daria - Travels" will be released in July.
Hell, they have even released another tape in Australia called "Daria - School Dysfunctions". It went on sale last month.
Someone at MTV thinks they CAN make money on this gal. If I had a VCR that played PAL formatted tapes I'd be ordering the damned videos right now!
Speaking of "those damned videos" they have finally put up a synopsis for the second video "Daria - Crushed" at the Amazon UK site.
It seems that the video will contain the episodes "Road Worrier", "Pierce Me", and "Lane Miserables".
The cover with Trent and Daria doing the Bogart/Bergman airport scene from 'Casablanca' is something else.

Daria is a valuable property, and putting out more videos might kill rerun possibilities. Is MTV in negotiations now? Are the people negotiating with MTV opposed to releasing new Videos, because they think it would kill their audience share?
I'll bet that there are at least three people reading this newsgroup right now, who know whether or not Daria will be syndicated, and whether those plans will affect Video and DVD plans. I would not at all be surprised to find that there are thirty people here.
I don't own a DVD player. If Daria came out on DVD, I would go BUY a DVD player just to play the Daria product. It is the only MTV product I can conceive of buying right now. ... My own personal rule of acquisition.

PS: GE should seriously, seriously reconsider his decision to let Daria die on MTV. I understand the fatigue factor, but there are obvious ways around that. This opinion is based on the idea that GE really DID kill Daria for the reasons stated, which I doubt.
Fair enough, but the thing is video is on it's way out. It's like the situation with casette tape about three or four years ago. You could see the selection of casettes in the classical bit of my local Virgin shop shrinking month by month (not that it was ever that impressive, even at it's height).
Video is going the same way. I would say that pre-recorded video casettes will be close to extinct within two or three years. If MTV want's to make money selling Daria directly to the public, DVD will be the only choice.
However, Daria tapes rely on the broadcast programme as advertising to increase sales. Once that's been off the air for a while, sales may not be enough to justify a DVD release so there is a finite window of opportunity for releasing pre-recorded eisodes that may close before video tapes die. This would mean no DVD - ever.
