This is the note that MTV sent to me in my aol mail. Could it be true? Every other source (including the Viacom press release) says Season 4 of Daria starts on February 25. What joy & rapture it will be if we will finally get new Daria TWO WEEK EARLY! (Michelle & Paperpusher, can you confirm?)

Hang in there folks -- the drought may almost be over!

hmm well MTV says that season 4 will start on Feb 11...but then again, MTV also says the 'daily dose' of Daria would return this week....and we didn't get that, now did we.

I'd say they will UNLESS something important comes up...like one of their teeny-bopper* performers does a special and how to apply makeup or something...

* I do not mean to apply that all teenagers or preteens enjoy the crap that MTV puts out which is aimed at them, however it IS aimed at your age group, so I call it that.

britney is attractive. if you're going to sell attractiveness, you have to actually *be* attractive. the spice girls failed miserably on this, because they're skanky, so they had to make up some shit about "girl power" and aim for a different market.

So do I, but then again, I've always like many different varieties in music. My feelings:

1)Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera are ok, Spice Girls(minus Posh) what were their names?

2)All boy bands and their clones, and bands/performers like Kid Rock, Korn and Limp Bizkit should be shot.

3)Metallica and David Lee Roth Van Halen are the best,(though Eddie wasn't bad either, and who is Gary Cherone?)

4)Whoever said no one over 13 would like Britney Spears, should meet my cousin who is 14 and my co-worker who I believe is 16 or 17, but she(the co-worker) also likes the Backstreet Boys, don't know which one she likes more, shes only been working with us for about 2 months and we're in different departments, so I've hardly talked to her at all.

5)Divas, Whitney Houston, etc, Latin, no problem, Rap, hip-hop, no preference either way.

6)Country...AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The one sure way to torture me, that and Olsen Twin movies.

My main problem with these pop bands is not merely their music (which isn't entirely scum, but is at best mediocre, IMO), is that they're so obviously milking their 15 minutes of fame to the core. Britney Spears *dolls*? Spice Girls *candy*? And what's the deal of offering Britney an *acting deal*? Is it just because of her boobs or what? Of course the worse part is the incessant hype and over-play of their songs. As for the songs themselves, I don't feel too much for love songs and the such anyway (which is mostly what they sing about). A bit too saccarine and cliched to me.

I think that the boy bands have a secret deal going on with Tiger Beat and all the other teen magazines: you hype us, we'll increase your sales. Not that there's anything wrong with it... :)

As for the rest, I don't like them either really (well except for a few of Korn's stuff), but it's mostly because of music taste.

I like Metallica too. I was so totally blown away by the S&M album. The call of Ktulu seriously had my head bobbing up and down like I was diving for apples. As for Van Halen, I don't know too much about their stuff so I can't say.

Ehh. A *lot* of people like her - all across the ages. She's cute, she sings well (supposedly), and she has those cute dance moves. Besides, she's every paedophile's dream.

Divas? Aretha Franklin's the only one that'd do for me. The rest are alright: not too great, not too shabby either (although I could kill Celine Dion with a spoon). Latin? If Ricky Martin is anything to go by, I'm afraid I have to pass. Rap and hip-hop make me switch channels faster than anything.

Now not all country is that bad. For some reason, I find Garth Brooks tolerable. And Shania Twain doesn't fit in the country category, IMO. She seems a bit more rock n roll to me.

Weird tastes? So far, Tori Amos and Suzanne Vega rock my boat, as well as Cake, Garbage, and a few 80s bands. But as with all things, music tastes change. I remember liking Roxette and Belinda Carlisle several years ago. I also collected several Nirvana and Aerosmith albums. And I *gasp*horror* even have a Kylie Minogue album that I bought when I was about 14. Heck, I may even grow to like pop music a few years from now.. we'll see :)

I might someday buy "Significant Other." I will *never* but "Three Dollar Bill Y'All" because it would mean having that violent demolition of "Faith" in the house. The hyping of that single by TRL (getting close to topic) was an experiment by MTV management to see how hideous a piece of music has to be before the teens of America will not listen to it. That's the only explanation that lets me continue to believe in God (though if I don't accept it, I can believe in Her spiteful and vindictive ex-husband Jehovah).

Austin, and good day.

Of course, I never was a big George Michaels fan and Limpy might not have been going for humor value...

No, Nookie was (IMO) completely intolerable. Rearranged was the one I was thinking of. I didn't catch the similarity to Faith, though. May have to listen to it again before I pronounce it as good.

yes she does, lol. she's awful. i've heard from someone who's met her, that she's actually quite intelligent, but just acts stupid, which i think is deplorable.

well that's a matter of opinion and stuff. they are on about the same level as most pop shite though; they're trying to sell a certain 'style' instead of decent songs. i can't stand most of those bands... although the deftones are perhaps similar, and i like some of their songs.

they're OK, but it's funny in our society that they're alongside the Backstreet Boys on afternoon TV... :)

some old country stuff is good, anything from the past 20-30 years, probably not...

LOL...okay, now that we're exposing our musical likes/dislikes...(this is a subject which I've always been passionate about)

1. If you wanna REALLY make me smile, you'll play something from the glam rock era from the early - mid '70s, the New Romantic period from the late '70s - early '80s, *good* New Wave, almost anything from the '80s, anything DD, Japan (or David Sylvian), U2, R.E.M., or the Rolling Stones released, and anything Motown up until about '90 or so.

2. First ever favorite artist...the Kinks. Second ever favorite artist...tie between the Beatles and the Doors. Third ever favorite artist...tie between the Supremes, the Temptations, and the Rolling Stones. Fourth ever favorite artist...the Mamas and the Papas. Then I moved onto Tom Petty. I'm extremely nostalgic and still like these artists.

  • I also like funk and *good* disco, but bad disco can be just as bad as indigestion.

4. When push comes to shove, I'd rather shove myself off the edge of a cliff than listen to what they play at wedding receptions here (i.e. mariachi music...blech, I spent two years playing in a mariachi band, PLEASE let me relax from that, Tejano, and bad country).

  • I think you know the rest. :)

LI (believe me, I like a whole lot more music than I dislike)

I wasn't aware there was such a thing...

I waver. I've got a token group from every style that I like (even rap and dance, believe it or not) but I generally prefer stronger stuff. Metal, Industrial, Punk. (Definately not that ska punk or whatever, though...)

Well, from what I've been able to discern, it appears that the MTV email was a bit on the wrong-ish side. The new Daria website rolls out on 2/11/00, but according to my usual sources of information, the season 4 premiere won't happen till the 25th of Feb.

That said, of course, it could all change at the drop of a hat. (Hey, this IS MTV we're talkin' about here.) If I hear ANYTHING different, I'll make sure y'all know ASAP.

For those of you wondering about the Daily Dose, it has returned on Mon, Wed, Thu, and sometimes Fri at 3PM. Right now, it's all season 3 reruns. Details on the site.

Oh, and yes, I finally updated my site late last night. What with a nasty bout of flu, finishing up grad school applications, and 5 winter storms in the last 2 weeks, I've been unable to do much with the site. (Or participate here, for that matter.)

Non info on eps available yet. So far, it doesn't look like there'll be a Daria Day marathon, either. I've been keeping a schedule of episode airings for the past year and change. The url's in my sig. It's also linked to right from the front page of Outpost Daria, at www.lawndale.net

It's February 25th, Cricket... now, take a deep, cleansing breath. ;-) The website debuts on the 11th. MTV hasn't even scheduled an ep for the 11th.

Actually, there is some very good news-- MTV will be airing "Behind the Scenes at Daria" on 2/14 at 5:30PM EST. It'll be aired a number of times-- I've put all of the airdates on the schedule page at my site. I guess this is in lieu of a Daria Day. Hell, I'll take it-- this way, we can fill in all of those little answers to our many unanswered questions. Yay!

(Naturally, it's all subject to change without notice.)

They've already started showing clips from the special in place of the usual show intro, bumpers, and closing credits. Funny thing-- the announcer talked all over the closing credits, while one of the interviews from the special was running-- it was the mysterious "Echo," too! Damn! Of course, her identity was hidden-- she must be Union. They also ran a clip of an interview with Janie Mertz-- she does both Brittany's and Sandi's voices, and ya know, I never did notice that. Cool. (Yes, Martin, I know-- Lisa Collins was first. <g>)

There was something else weird-- they interviewed someone named "Hannah" as the voice of Jane, Quinn, and Helen. Maybe she's using a pseudonym, but I could've sworn that Wendy Hoopes did those voices. What's up with that? Then again, Wendy's probably Union, too. (But if the voices for Quinn, Jane, and Helen mysteriously change, well... let's not even think about that after the new voice for Mack showed up in season 3... *Shudder*)

No, Cricket-- believe me, I don't think they'll let that sort of embarassment happen again. <educated guess> In fact, the international viewers will probably have to wait even longer, like they did after the problem was discovered... </educated guess>

Oh, I took the GRE in November, but I had to take a special entry exam for the Columbia School of Journalism. Apparently they don't think the GRE is a good predictor of journalistic success. I think they may be on to something, there. They actually asked me questions regarding current events, editing, and writing. Scary-- an admissions test that actually tests something related to the proposed course of study. What's next, dogs and cats sleeping together? ;-)

Plans are for a Masters in Journalism, either at (in order of pref) Columbia, Berkeley, or (tie) UNC or UT-Austin. With the last two, it all depends on the $$. But if I get in at Columbia, I'm gone like a shot to Noo Yawk. ;-) (It's a one-year program, and the program is tops for print journalism.)

Heh... I just got back from a full day of CLE... and I've got more tomorrow morning. :P I hate CLE I hate CLE I hate CLE....

I know one thing's for sure-- I don't feel one iota of guilt for leaving the law. (Evil chuckle.) In fact, some of my fellow counsellors are quite jealous. ;-)

Thanks, and to you as well, Counsellor.
