Time?

The "Lesbian Seagull" thread got me thinking... Will time seriously pass in "Daria"? Will she eternally be a sophomore, or will season three find her as a junior? What about college? Maybe we'll have to wait until some character moves away and has a spin-off from "Daria"...

I seriously doubt it. There will be character development throughout the show, but I don't think the characters will "age" normally. "Daria" is about a 16- year-old high school student, and I think that's what the writers are going to stick to. In the long term, "Daria" might find a life in reruns in syndication on, say, Comedy Central. And there's an unwritten rule for shows like this: Don't muck with the characters *too* much, because there's always the chance that the shows might not be replayed in order, and viewers could get confused. Imagine you'd never seen "Daria" before, and you saw "Pierce Me" and "Road Worrier" back-to-back, in that order. "Road Worrier" would seem awfully strange, with Daria fumbling around Trent, if you'd just seen her get a navel piercing for him. So imagine your consternation if you saw one episode showing her as a senior, for example, and another with her as a sophomore.

Just my opinion, and worth what you paid for it... :)

Perfect example would be Gargoyles. It airs on USA out of order, hard to follow if you don't know how they originally aired.
