That was just some troll trawling a whole bunch of newsgroups with cross-posted flamebait. The best thing to do is ignore such threads, or (as I did) post a reply in which this newsgroup is deleted from the newsgroups list so it only appears on the other groups. If people on the other groups then continue by responding to that posting, the thread from that point on disappears from this group. Such threads are usually a process of attrition between people deleting newsgroups from the cross-postings and the original trollers who often have a tendency to add more newsgroups.

Shez pretty much covered it in detail (pardon the pun), but, frankly, for this newsgroup, just about any topic is fair game for comment. It's just that we usually cover topics a little more, um, coherently and politely than many NGs, which is why that particular thread looks so out-of-place here. (And, yes, I think that that is a Good Thing.)
