This dirty little piece just spammed me with thousands of emails of obscene and insulting content.

Unless the spammer is a complete idiot, it's unlikely it really came from that address. It's extremely easy to spoof mail so that it looks like it's coming from someone else. If you inform [email], they should be able to check and see if it really came from that account.

Though a lot less easy than it used to be cirtainly all the mailservers I administer only allow remote mail to be sent from cirtain pre-determined addresses, which means that you have to trust the users at those addresses, but at least you generally know who they are and can go and jump on them :)
