For some reason I was unable to get onto MTV's site, and I don't know which Daria ones are good, so I don't know if I have a legitimate reason to flee early from the family Passover seder tomorrow (i.e. new ep) or do I stay with the relatives until all hours. Please let me know. Thanks!!

Oooh, Robyn, do I have some baaad news for you.... ;-)
Enjoy bonding with the relatives. Tomorrow MTV is doing a tribute to "Boy Bands." No Daria at 3, No Daria at 10. Sorry. No Daria on Thursday, either. On Friday, you can catch TLG at 8:30 AM, and on Sunday you can catch D! at 9 AM.
Considering most Daria fans are teens, I find the early morning airings to be not only ironic, but slightly humorous as well. ;-) (Oh, yeah, I remember sleeping past noon on the weekends... ;-) )
I maintain a fairly accurate TV schedule on my site... I check a variety of sites, and weigh the info based on the reliability of the sources. Some are better than others, but not always.... never mind. The URL's at the bottom.

Shit, BOY BANDS? They interrupt "Daria" for BOY BANDS? What fucking nonsense is THAT all about? Grrrr.
At least they could've made it something GOOD, like, I don't know, um, a rerun of one of those "Sex in the '90s" shows they used to show a lot...I guess....
Friday...oh joy, we get to revisit TLG...yes, exactly what I want...(note tiny HINT of sarcasm). (What? It was painful! A really good episode, but PAINFUL!) Whew...it's on while I'm at school. Cool. [address] just as I'm readying for Easter Mass.
My parents would never let me do such a thing. I can recall sleeping in till 11 a.m. ONCE my entire life. Usually my mom will wake up the entire house at 9 a.m. sharp. Have gotten used to it, though, as I noticed that when I was away to England the latest I could possibly sleep in till was 7:45 a.m. Maybe stay in bed till 8 a.m. But would be out of bed by 8:10 a.m., for sure.
It was a really valuable resource when I went away. Would have been more precious than silver had it not been for the fact that I misplaced my VCR remote while packing, thus rendering all recording plans useless. Ah well...got to see the unseen ep finally.

"Let's kill the NME! Yes! And the Melody Maker too! Strangle 'em both!" Jane: Dear Daria, Lousy Traitor. Daria: Dear Jane, I know what you are, but what am I?
How is that possible?!? I will never understand the concept of getting up early. I stay in bed until 3pm at least when I don't have school...Today I was in bed 'til about 4pm, when some of my friends decided it'd be fun to phone me and ask me "what the fuck is wrong" with me. Oh well. But anyway, back to the original point of this message: mornings suck. :)
I would have agreed with you in the past (probably when I was closer to your age around 15 or 16). But nowadays, I can see the value in waking up earlier than noon. I now prefer to go to bed early just so I can get up early (I lead a VERY dull life, by most standards).
What is the value of waking up earlier than noon then? There's lots of good things about sleeping all day and being awake at night - phone calls are more expensive in the day time so I can go online at night/in the evening for less, there's less people around at night, etc... <g> Shops are closed, though, which is kind of a drawback. And then when you go back to school you have to get used to getting up at 8am again. :)
Erm, yeah, new sig... <shakes head, puzzled> What is it with people and my sig?
Well, I live in the good old USA, where phone prices stay pretty much the same all day and night, we only get charged a flat monthly rate for local calls, and there are plenty of ways to get online other than by just going online at home. I do live in a rather large-ish city, though (1.5 million in the metro area at last count), so we do continually have people around. Even a few cars out in the freeways at 3 a.m. -- granted, only a few, but still you're not alone. There are also stores here that are open 24 hours a day -- yes, that means you too can buy a banana, a can of corn, some bacon, bread, apple juice, furniture polish, or whatever your little supermarket-loving heart desires, in the middle of the night. That's one of the few things I found disappointing about London -- I was figuring there would be stores open at all hours of the night. The final night I was there I wanted something other than cereal or Burger King for breakfast the next day, so I went over to Sainsbury's and roamed the aisles looking for a nice breakfasty (at least to my American palate) pastry. I finally found these wonderful-looking flapjacks (I think that's what they were called, they were certainly different than what I'd known to be flapjacks) and was readying myself to pay for them when a security guard curtly informed me the store was closed and I wasn't able to pay for whatever I'd gotten. I was really disappointed, especially since it was ONLY 11 p.m. I'd figured the store would be open till 3, 4 a.m. at least. But no. And I've found out that's a late closing, too.
*sigh*...once again, I am such an American....
I don't know, I rather like your sigs. They're always so entertaining. I have a boring one myself, and am actively seeking a new Daria/Jane quote (unused, of course) to put in its place. As well as a Duran Duran quote....
Aw, "poor little sig"...makes me want to reach over to the sig and pet it. "Nice little sig, good little sig, you're so cute...yes, indeedy, we like you...nice siggie, siggie...."

"Let's kill the NME! Yes! And the Melody Maker too! Strangle 'em both!" Jane: Dear Daria, Lousy Traitor. Daria: Dear Jane, I know what you are, but what am I?
Here daytime calls are about 3 times the price of evening/night-time ones. Looking at my last phone bill it seems to be about 3p/minute daytime and 1p/minute cheap rate, which soon mounts up if you're online much. In US money that would be about $3/hour day or $1 hour evening I think. My phone bills are always astronomical these days. One trouble is that browsers, especially Netscape, have brain-damaged caches that don't work properly when you go offline.
A few are, my local Tesco is open 24 hours, except of course for when you're most likely to run out of food, ie. Sunday night. Sundays they close 4:30pm! But most food shops are shut by 9pm. And even in London, bars shut at 11pm and most public transport stops around midnight. If you want late night drinking you need to go to Scotland, which has repealed the World War I drinking restrictions that England still keeps to, for no apparent reason other than they suck.
I can't remember what US flapjacks are like, but UK ones are like small fat pancakes. Muffins are different too, but you probably know that, as I notice that it's possible to buy "English muffins" in the US as well as the US muffins, which we would call cakes or buns.
Three bucks an HOUR?! No wonder you guys complain about phone bills! Here we pay a flat rate for local service and a per-minute for long distance. If they charged me that much for phone service I'd probably go play hermit for a few years. Yuck.
Yes its great fun *trying* to socialise in the uk Don`t attempt it unlesss you are loaded Talking to people is an activity reserved for the wealthy in the UK The poor have the walls of their bedsits to keep em company
No kidding... I can't even imagine what long-distance charges must be like! I'd be in big trouble if phone charges here were that much, my phone bill was over 170 dollars last month ALREADY (ah, the joys of having a Significant Other in another state..). (and no, I'm not spoiled--I had to pay for the damn thing myself. which means VERY few calls this month. :-(
You guys need price wars like we have over here, LOL. Even though you'd be annoyed to the death by phone company commercials, your phone bill would be close to the fringes of the gray areas of the boundaries of remote acceptibility. As it is, I'm amazed anyone in your country communicates.
I'm telling you, BT and Cable & Wireless (yes, I know the companies...part of the perks of having a Brit sweetie) need to get serious competition, and there also needs to be a seperate company for local phone service, and the phone companies should make certain things optional extras (the British phones can do so much more than American phones do, of course at a cost -- and the pay phones are light years away from US pay phones in terms of technological advances), and they should enact the $25 - $30 per month flat rate fee for unlimited local and 1-800/1-888 (our "free phone" calls) phone numbers and tech support, and AT&T, MCI, and Sprint need to work with BT and Cable & Wireless to show them how to better serve their customers.

Dear God, what can be worse than MCI? And explain to me about the British phones - sounds interesting; I've never heard or a difference between American ones and British. And it sounds like British phone service could use to be Americanized in the extreme...
-Mindy "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I'm kinda proud of myself."
I thought the facilities were the same as in America -- caller ID, call forwarding, conference calls, ring back, and so on. The trouble is you have to pay for each of these things individually, so in practice few people actually have access to any of these features. Yet it costs BT nothing to provide them as these features are all built in to modern exchanges.
It was originally intended that all these things would be provided free as part of the basic phone service, but then in 1984 the government sold the phone company off into private ownership, and the company then decided to increase its profits by charging people exorbitant monthly fees for each of the facilities. So basically we have to pay about 16/year ($25) per feature, which pays for some guy at the exchange to press a button to enable the service. Talk about money for old rope! Suppose you buy that service for ten years. It took, say, one minute to turn it on, so BT end up getting a labour cost of 10,000/hour for the pressing of that button!
Caller ID is a godsend. I'm no longer forced to be polite to tele-marketers or even talk to them. And if someone that's a general annoyance calls, I don't have to answer the phone cause I know it's not important. If you have the extra funds I would highly recommend getting caller ID (BTW, I don't work for a phone company;)
Mike Quinn [email] "...the race is long, and in the end it's only with yourself..."
Yes, Caller ID is great at further limiting extraneous interactions with people... kind of like the credit card readers at gas pumps, or like ordering stuff over the net... Hey, before you know it, we won't have to deal with *anyone* .... ;-)

One of my teachers has a theory that 100 years from now, the population of earth will be divided into two groups: 90% of the people will stay at home all their lives and order things over the internet, while the other 10% will be the people that run all over the place delivering all that stuff.
Fine by me. Actually, I really hate using the telephone. I'm one of the
few who actually *likes* voicemail, as it means I don't have to deal with rude
operators. Something about my voice that invites rudeness, I guess. Actually, I
think my phone neurosis stems from the fact that back in my younger days, mean
classmates would crank-call me all the time. Did I mention I was not a popular
student? Considering how well I relate to "Daria", I think it stands to reason.
But then, bullies seem harder on unpopular boys than unpopular girls. Except
the fat girl, the lowest rung of the high-school social ladder. I almost feel
bad for not inviting her to the prom. But then, I was the closeted gay boy, the
second-lowest rung of the high-school social ladder, at least in the 80's.

I would have to disagree with this, as one of the more popular girls at my school (at least by her senior year) was quite possibly one of the fattest, though she was still pretty. Incidentally, she was also my girlfriend, for a while. :) She's still one of my best friends, though I rarely see her these days. Such is the curse of college.
Of corse, nothing that happened at Edison applies to the real world (or at least the more common aspects of the world), unfortunately. :(
Hmm... at my school, cliquey and snotty as it is, there are at least several very... uhm... "large" girls who are quite popular and loved by almost everyone. No one seems to really care about their weight all that much. On the other hand, there are also a couple extremely irritating "fat" girls who no one likes... but that's hardly because of their weight, it's because their personalities aren't very easy to get on with. :-/
Yeah. I was considerably more overweight in high school than I am right now, and it didn't really hurt things. I was slightly popular, and hung out sometimes with v. popular people (president of Student Government, one of the members of the varsity basketball team, others). Plus I don't THINK I was dense (dunno -- can dense people become National Merit Scholar finalists?). It's all in the individual person, methinks.
(Before you groan at my slight popularity, please note that I was hopelessly unpopular from the time I was two to the time I was fourteen, in day care/grade school, and that I did a LOT of extracurricular activities that wore me out.)
You went to an Edison high school? No way! I used to LIVE near an Edison high school! For the first 14 or so years of my life! Of course, the Edison that was close to me (less than 1/2 a block away) was Gang Central....

Which brings me to the question: what city?
Well, maybe it'd be true...which could be good, you know, you could always say you "survived Edison high school". And not just because of the stupid people you usually find in class either.
As for "what city?", the beautiful, wonderful, ever so great (note MAJOR sarcasm here) San Antonio, TX. Blech. I'd rather be tied to a post and have leeches crawl all over me, drawing pint after pint of blood from me. I REALLY like my hometown, can't you see? :P

<LOL> You don't need to list excuses for being popular.... :) Popularity doesn't necessarily mean you're shallow or stupid, there's plenty of shallow and stupid *un*popular people around. <g> I wouldn't say I was hopelessly unpopular right now... One of my friends is extremely popular, none of them are really unpopular... I think I'm the most unpopular out of my little "group", though, because I always look really miserable, so nobody talks to me. <g>
Right...some people are popular because they're really likeable and have the right charisma. Jodie would fall into this category, I think. Maybe Mack, too, if we knew anything about him (for all we know, he only hangs out with Jodie and Kevin). Jodie seems to be the only intermediary between both worlds. **************************************** "Awww, poor baby. You want some cheese for that whine?" "You want some corn for that pun?"
(a.) I do feel at times like justifying it. Heck, sometimes I didn't even FEEL popular at all. Ah well, will get over it.... (b.) You're right. For some strange reason my school had weird regulations on who was "popular" and who was "unpopular". At least one of the really creative, artistic people (she reminds me of Jane, in fact) was quite popular. So I kinda feel like translating..."OK, popularity here doesn't necessarily mean the same as popularity over where you are. There are some people you'd consider 'unpopular' who are 'popular' here." Strange. (c.) I wouldn't say you're "hopelessly unpopular" either. Sounds like you're not even "unpopular". And on this newsgroup you can revel in the fact that you're a star, a celeb "Daria" fan. (d.) Yeah, but should "looking really miserable" really be an excuse for those people to not approach you? What I found in high school was that sometimes the most dour-looking person out there would turn out to be one of the greatest conversationalists you'd ever known, and that she (was always a she, part of the beauty of single-gender education) was just stressed out or tired or not feeling well or something.
Who knows...probably at my alma mater you'd have been popular. Provided you fit a certain niche. Maybe just for the fact that you're a "Daria" fanatic. I know a LOT of people who think "Daria" is cool but who aren't fanatics. :)
Aw, poor baby. Hope you find them soon.

People here are popular if they're '"people" people' <g>, or if they have popular close friends. I can't think of any popular people here who don't fit into either of those... This is, I have concluded, why I'm unpopular; I am *not* a '"people" person'
I am *definitely* unpopular <LOL>.
:)
I am not a great conversationalist, to say the least. <g> I think my appearance puts people off me, I always look really weird and angry/sad, and frown and stuff.... I can see why, really... Today, my friend brought in the photos from her birthday party (not sure why it took her 2 months to get them developed... <g>) and there were 3 or four with me in... Aarrgh, I looked DEAD! <lol>

It's the type of popularity we seemed to have a lot of in high school, except much better because of its sheer global scope.

Good. I am very glad to be popular on atd. :) Priveliged, or something. That's the right word, isn't it? Eating a real breakfast stabilizes just about every aspect of my being; indeed, I suspect that part of the reason you have such difficulty eating in the afternoon and evening is because you didn't eat something in the morning (a wheat flake, like Wheaties or something, is the best for a start).
