Besides, "[address]" is fantastical escapism, something you view when you want to unplug and just relax, not have to think about much of anything at all. And its quality is higher than all other musical spoofs out there in TV-ville ("TV land" is already taken). And also, it's worth it just for a listen to a favorite song on there, which I suspect a lot of you will soon be developing once you've viewed the ep with open minds and ears.
So...don't worry. You'll have a great time. Just sit back, relax, and let your mind have a little holiday. Call your mind "depth", even. ;)
Besides of the new episodes that I have seen (everything now except "Depth Takes a Holiday"), I have to say that "The Musical" is my favorite :-)

I must strenuously disagree with this statement! I enjoyed "Daria!" a great deal. If you are even slightly familiar to the musical format (even if you hate it, though it'll take some getting used to), you'll likely get a great deal more out of it than those that ignorantly insist that "It sucked!" If not, well, open your mind. The trick is to realize that the singing isn't actually a portrayal of people singing (posibly as a result of a nervous breakdown, but I digress), it's merely a storytelling method. It's a strange method, alien to most of our generation (I'm 21), but it is an enjoyable one, if you allow yourself to enjoy it (which can be tough when you spent most of your life believing musicals to be some stupid girly crap only your mother enjoyed... ;)
First of all, while it parodies the musical format, it is also very passable as a serious musical, at least as far as cartoons go. The songs are well written, and enjoyable, in addition to telling the story.
Many people dismissed it as a random collection of songs that, while enjoyable, didn't make much sense. This is far from the truth. There is a story as intricate as any other episode of Daria, and a fair number of interesting character developments, as much as, if not more, than any episode.
I'll avoid going into details, but you can bet I'll join in when the next round of "Daria!" bashing begins! >:)

eMy main criticism is the sudden end. There seems to be a bit missing between Jake & Trent deciding to rescue Daria & Jane, and the scene where they've crashed the car and Daria & Jane turn up. How did Daria & Jane get off the roof? How did Jake crash the car? There needs to be an extra scene or two really. I thought Jake and Trent were going to rescue them off the roof, that would have tied most of the loose ends together nicely.
There were a few other non sequitors too, I think the Daria team let plot consistency slip somewhat during this episode. Also the thing about having Trent over at the Morgendorffers was kind of odd, since when did they care about Trent?
The opening theme tune is way weird. I like the talking pictures and stuff though. And the cocoa drinking. And how Jake throws his phone out of the car window when he fails to get through - that was a little scene straight out of the Blue Brothers, where he tosses the car's cigarette lighter thing out of the car window as if it were just a dead match.

PS. I'm just watching the episode again and I noticed this time round that you can hear Jake crash the car just as they set off to rescue the girls. I missed that detail first time round.

Would have been the more normal way to resolve the storyline; I didn't mind it though, because *Daria* IS a comedy.
Remember, this is actually the SEVENTH episode of the third season. Maybe Trent has been by the Morgendorffers some more in the eps we haven't seen (305 and 306, I think).

I loved the choreography in They Must Be Worried: watch the others' reactions to Brittany throwing her arms back.
I liked the variety of musical genres. Generic Broadway (?) (Morning in the Burbs), Leonard Bernstein (Manly), Richard O'Brien (Gah Gah Dammit), Andrew Lloyd Webber (They Must Be Worried)...
We got to see how much Trent cares for his sister, and the Morgendorffers for each other. Daria didn't blush when Trent hugged her (to the dismay of the 'shippers?).
At least one good theme was explored, eg, the tension that can go with living up to "new man" expectations.
I liked Ms Li's answer, "Not on School property!" to "Are we going to die?" And "Will we still get three months off with pay?"
I can see how people who've firmly put Daria in the "Animated Sitcom" box might be irritated by this ep: it breaks out of that box. I'm not saying, btw, that anyone who's irritated by D!(TM) must be irritated for that reason.
I was hoping for a Dennis Potter _hommage_. It was disappointed in that hope, but not disappointed in the ep: it was an enjoyable excursion into a different genre.
I suppose that if this ep had been scheduled for first transmission in the US today, it would have been postponed, given the tragic events of the last week. Assuming MTV do that sort of thing (reschedule out of sensitivity to recent tragic events), as the UK TV companies do occasionally. My prayers, FWIW, for anyone who was affected, in particular anyone on atd, of course.

Unprepared? You mean unlike the Morgendorffers, whose preparations appeared to be in Quinn's expert hands, who advised brewing mugs of cocoa. And Trent is 21 isn't he, so it's not like he's a kid. Cocoa aside, I just didn't see how the Morgendorffer's house was supposed to be a safer place to be than the Lane's house. It's not like we saw them board up the windows or anything,

Actually, he didn't come looking for Jane. Jake had called the Lanes looking for Daria, and Helen -- having found out that Trent was the only one there (and fast asleep, to boot) and that the Lane parents were out of town -- told Trent to come over to Casa Morgendorffer to wait with them. After he put his pants on, of course. :-)

Also to be remembered as to why Trent was invited over is that this episode was meant to be the 7th in the season....and only 301..305 have been transmitted so maybe this is addressed in 306 (it is a pet theory of mine that this is also the ep that the D-T thing will be addressed as well, which is why MTV re-arranged so that 306 would start the batch of new eps rather than 307, this make sense to anyone else ?).
Actually I believe he's supposed to be 22 now.....

But your comments provoke this thought: perhaps they've realised that they can't cut DTAH (for a children's TV slot) without doing violence to the ep, and so they've decided to dump it completely. We may not see DATH on C5. 8-(

I'm afraid that musicals, operas, etc. are waaaaayyy outside my field of expertise. OK so I've seen Mary Poppins, but I think that's excusable on the grounds of it being an essentially subversive film about enlightenment (although I this interpretation of it wasn't evident to me when I saw it as a kid - it was only after completing my training as an Illuminati agent that the true meaning of Mary Poppins forcibly struck me as I re-watched it one Xmas).

I've only just started taping Daria to keep, from Channel 5 (no ads, very unobtrusive logo), and now I hear there's been a significant cut?!
Normally, I don't mind when TV stations make cuts, eg 5 seconds of violence from Xena, but a whole song is a significant snippage. Should I retape this episode from MTV Europe (hoping they won't cut)?

FWIW ONdigital say they'll be carrying MTV from 1st July. I don't know if the programming will be the same as MTV europe on cable. I'd also guess it will not be free...

I've complained to the C5 duty office and asked if they can reinstate the song when they do the reruns. Hopefully we'll get some reply at some point. I suppose the most likely reasons for snippage are the number of dammits, the dangerous driving (mind you this is standard practice for cartoon characters, and it's not like Princess Di just died in a car crash last week or something - things are sometimes cut because of current "sensitivities" but I can't think of an obvious auto accident thing, although of course since the episode aired there was the incident in America where some car darting about in the traffic like Jake caused a bus to crash, killing 20 people). Finally, maybe C5 were trimming it to fit the time slot (25 mins including adverts & trailers), but if so that sucks.

Yes, but notice the expression on her face when Trent is hugging Jane, and again when Trent hugs her. The reason she doesn't blush is that she's becoming more used to Trent; his mere physical closeness doesn't embarass her any more. (It does NOT mean that she doesn't like him anymore!)
If Trent also likes Daria, he would of course want to prove himself in the eyes of her father. And two girls he cared for (Jane and Daria) were in fact in danger out there.

Currently, in Baldur's Gate, I have Daria set up as a chaotic good fighter/mage (with 18 intelligence, of course.) who kicks ass with a bow or magic missles and Jane lane as a lawful good paladin. The nice thing about BG is the costom sounds, it's really easy to ditch the default voices and add Daria or Jane sound clips to your character. I often spend more time tweaking and finding appropriate clips for the triggered sounds (battle cry, entering a city, injured, bored, becoming leader, etc..) than i do playing the game. </RPG geek mode>

That's more of an eighties thing. Although I guess the first radio series went out around 1979. I think series two was broadcast in 1980, I still have it on tape somewhere. Then there was the tv series c.1982. I'm amazed that hasn't been repeated more often actually. In fact I don't recall the BBC repeating the tv series at all, yet it was way better than Dr. Who, which with it's disused quarry sets and cheap monster outfits was effects-wise little better than the first Star Trek series, which in turn had on-planet scenes little better than the wobbly tree cemetery in Plan 9 From Outer Space.
