Daria Hunters and other Movies

In Daria Hunters (#202) there are two scenes which have been driving me nuts for months, because they are obviously borrowing from a movie or two, but I don't know which one(s).

1st scene: Daria - (in head) Somebody in a movie once said hell is the possibility of sanity. That's what this place feels like. Hell. I hate it already. Some damn hour, Grandma.

Which movie or movies are being referred to here? I assume that "Some damn hour, Grandma" is a direct borrow or a paraphrase from some movie.

2nd scene: Sandi is being abandoned, there is the sound of helicopter rotors, Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings (used to such great effect in "Lorenzo's Oil") is going off in the background, Sandi falls in the mud while saying "wait," the people in the off-going transport turn away.

Now thats GOT to be from a movie. Does anyone know? This was probably discussed years ago, but I thought someone might know off the top of their head.

I'd heard that in earlier discussions of this episode (I haven't seen the movie either) but I was just wondering:

I remember a line from John Fowles' book "The Magus" in which a character, of WWI (as I recall) said, "Hell is the impossibility of sanity." I thought it seemed too similar to the line in Daria (or "The Deer Hunter") to be mere coincidence.

Can anyone comment?

In Platoon, the line was "Hell is the impossibility of reason" which is a reference by Chris (Charlie Sheen, main character of the movie) to .... arggghhhhhh I can't remember exactly, I'm saying off hand possibly Jean Paul Sartre.. I have never been able to figure out why they changed it from it's original wording, because "Hell is the possibility of sanity" doesn't make much sense to me. The heck? I did like this episode overall though, poking fun at war films.
