Though only by a couple of weeks I have noticed though that people who have cable/satilite tend to watch very little terestrial TV (well amongst the people I know anyway). I had toyed with the idea of getting cable in if MTV showed them first, may still do it :-) Now is that dedication or insanity ?

Humm odd thing is I saw the message twice on Demon's news server that I use at home, but only once on Warwick Uni's (at work).....now lets see if this gets posted ok....Warwick's newsfeed seems to lag Demon's bu a couple of days, wonder what the situation is the other way around.......

It will never happen. US broadcasters are very possessive about screening things first, just as movies are always released there first. In this day and age you'd think we might have simultaneous releases of things in all countries but it simply doesn't happen. Even worse, even UK co-productions get shown in America before they get shown here - eg. Due South, which only survived because the BBC co-funded a new series, was shown in America months before it was shown here. UK fans were incensed, but the BBC simply didn't seem to see what people were upset about, there seems to be no race to get things to our screens here.
Where UK showings of a series are in danger of overtaking US ones, what happens is the UK ones come to a halt until the US has shown the next batch. This happened with Sabrina, which started in the US about 2 months before the UK, but due to the American method of constant pre-empting and mixing in repeat episodes, the UK caught up to within a week of the US, at which point the series was suspended or went into reruns here (I forget which). I think we're currently over a year behind now though as cheapskate ITV stopped buying new episodes and just kept repeating the stuff they'd already got.
The fact that C5 are showing Daria only a couple of months behind the US showing is actually quite good, it used to take TV series at least a year to get here. Certainly I recall being amazed when ITV originally picked up Sabrina after only two months, I hadn't expected to be able to see it for a couple of years.
