Is it just me, or is Trent Lane, like, *the* coolest guy on TV?

Yes, I think Trent Lane is like the coolest guy on TV. Now, who *IS* this coolest guy that Trent is like?

OK, folks...here's the deal.

I suspect that several people around here are wondering "where's the attraction" with all these grrls in love with Trent, a goddam cartoon character!!!

Anyway, here's what's up.

Every grrl fantasizes about The Musician. Particularly The Guitarist.

Almost every boy tries at least once taking up music, in hopes that they will be The Musician the grrls all cream their jeans over.

Hence, Trent Lane. He's gawky and gangly and if he wasn't a musician you'd all think him a loser. But he's The Guitarist so...instant attraction. Just add estrogen.

Note: this also inversely applies to women musicians as well. If you don't believe me, ask any of the hundreds of guys who followed Sylvia Juncosa of SWA around like panting puppydogs.

I have personal experience with this phenomenon. I married a musician.

of SWA

Who? Trust me, profession has little to do with attraction for guys. Unless it's a cook/hooker. That is every guys fantasy.

Not entirely true. I can give you other examples of men who become absolutely ga-ga over women musicians. Remember the band L7? They had a huge fanbase of drooling fanboys.

I haven't been to Lilith Fair but I would expect a lot of drooling fanboys there too.

Anyway, speaking of the Trent Estrogen Brigades, it seems like enough of them voted en masse in the MTV poll to make "Road Worrier" and "Pierce Me" the two picks for the "Daria By Request" thing tonight at 7pm.

You may have nothing but contempt for them. You may call them "the obsessed," "the fixated" or by any number of other names. But they are out there. And they have spoken.

If you didn't like this trend in Season Two, look out...this augurs for more, not less, Trent N' Daria schtuff in Season Three.

BTW -- my attituted about the Trent/Daria thang is this: It's funny and even a little sweet but it had better be handled exceedingly carefully. The best writers on "Daria" are up to the challenge of not allowing this to torpedo the series. My worries is what are the lesser lights on the show going to do with it. If "Daria" turns into "Lawndale 90210" I'm going to freakin' commit seppuku.

With the networks cutting dynamite gags from cartoons, do you find that your children are using explosives less frequently? Change the capital letters into numbers and get rid of the "Nope" and that's my address.

No way, it's just a bunch of folksingers there, there aren't any drooling fanboys there--just a bunch of lesbians and Mr. O'Neill types. :)

NOTE---I AM KIDDING!! THIS IS A JOKE!!!! PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME!!!!

(BTW, I *like* "Trent Estrogen Brigades"! I think we should consider that to be the Official Title for the obsessed ones, yes?)

Maybe "contempt" is too strong a word. I simply don't care for the TEBers constantly reading something into their relationship that is simply not there, instead of accepting it for what it was intended to be (which is, as we all know, a simple teenage crush). The fact that MTV had to go out of their way to state a resounding *NO* regarding Daria and Trent hooking up shows, to me, that it's starting to go a bit too far.

As long as it's nothing more than what we've seen, fine. Seeing Daria get tongue-tied around Trent and turn several different shades of blush is one thing. Seeing anything more serious is quite another (though I would not be against a one-shot episode showing them *TRYING* something a little more serious, only to find that they just don't go well together and end up back where they were... though IMHO you'd have to have pretty good justification to get that particular ball in motion).

Agreed 100%. I'll even loan you my short blade and long sword so you can do it right. Then I'll follow you. :-)
