Bah, I reject the idea that Standardized Tests are an accurate measure of intelligence. I think Sandi's as smart as Quinn, she just doesn't apply it as well. (Being smart is soooo geeky.)

I'll concede that Sandi deserves to rank last in the Amiability sweepstakes, but I'm not sure that Stacy should give up the top spot...she is, to date, the only member of the Fashion Club who's treated Upchuck like a human being. Can't get much more amiable than that. ^_^

I'd rate Tiffany slightly higher than Quinn on panache, assuming that by panache includes the ability to switch sides in mere seconds without turning a hair. Quinn's conscience and her squeamishness about physical contact tend to get in the way of her panache.

Hmmm. Standardized tests aside, I think trying to pass off Brad (sic) Stoker's work as your own, even to O'Neill, ain't too smart.

Nor is trying to fool "Ms. Darlene" with a Romeo&Juliet essay based on a movie - especially referring to Romeo by the name of the actor who portrayed him.

This issue of Sandi's "intelligence" was bandied about in another thread and was more or less unresolved.

I'd like to submit a theory if I may....

I really think Sandi, during her elementary years, was probably a bright girl. Very well read (thus explaining her vocabulary) and on her way to becoming an exceptional student. Then during junior high school, after she lost the braces (see Lucky Strike), she probably got sucked in to the whole "being popular" thing.

This happens a lot in junior high. The grades start to drop because being with the 'in crowd" a) takes up too much of your time and b) it's just not cool to be a "brain" anymore.

Rebuttals anyone?

Dunno. We really don't have the faintest canonical hint as to what kind of a student Sandi was pre-Esteemsters.

As for her vocabulary, she doesn't always use her big words correctly. I didn't think she was using "sabbatical" correctly in IICY and I checked a couple dictionaries. It seems "sabbaticals" are something which come up periodically and for a regular period of time, which is what I thought. "Leave of absence" was a better term for what Quinn did. But it doesn't sound as impressive. (And when Stacy couldn't pronouce "sabbatical" [though I thought she basically got it right the second time] Sandi came up with "vacation", which isn't right either.)

What you say is, of course, possible. I can think of people who changed drastically in junior high for somewhat similar reasons. It would make a plausible fanfic. But canonically I still think Sandi isn't too bright.

If she's really intelligent, you'd think she'd be able to at least get Bs and Cs and do well enough on a standardized test to get into a party college. From what we know, she's not even doing that well.

And she's shown some lack of intelligence apart from academics as well, especially in season 5. After FLM, you'd think she'd know she can't dump on Stacy any more. She tries to in LITPL and get publicly humiliated for it. She taunts Stacy about not having a date for her birthday in IICY and we saw what happened there - trying to get Stacy to baby-sit her monster-brothers all summer? Yeah, sure. Bye, bye, FC.

And Sandi's done the same sort of thing with Quinn. To keep dumping on Quinn about Daria in "Lucky Strike" even *after* Quinn had said "she's my sister" was really stupid.

Basically a college where, by tradition, parties and other social acitivities are considered more important than academics. Usually the coursework is rather easy at such places, and entry requirements are not high.

Thank you again, mman. Now, are there any *actual* bona-fide real colleges like that out there, not that I'm seeking to get in any of them, you understand. ;D I'm just curious.

Whoa, thanks, mman. Those are some *well* known "party schools". Makes me wonder if really *all* public colleges are technically "party schools".

Actually, it looks like they've included some fairly good academic schools that really belong in their own category - the "study hard, party hard" school. The sort of place where students party (perhaps just one night a week) to relieve academic pressure and stress.

But I don't think Sandi (who got us started on this) would be going to such a place. I suppose BFAC could be like that, though.

It has taken a lot of potentially-intelligent people and convinced them that intelligence, or even common sense, is some type of mental disease that can be fixed by saying the right things, wearing the right clothes, and not thinking the right thoughts...

Yep. But where's the intelligence? If she's dumb about social meneuvering (you'd think that would be her strong point) and gets poor grades in school. what's left? Using big words sort-of correctly just isn't enough to convince me she's smarter than Quinn or even Stacy. Is Upchuck a brilliant linguist because he drops "amour" and some other French words into his innuendoes?
