My O.O2c

I feel the need to say this, as i have been thinking about it for quite some time and have to get it off my chest.

I can here expecting an atmosphere of openness and tolerance, and most of all was hoping to find people with a certain Darian (to coin a term) philosophy.

Instead I am confronted with a cliquish type mentality that is exclusive and not at all open to new ideas. There seems to be a hierarchy, especially amongst the males, of pseudo intelligentsia, that is bordering on egocentrism akin to medical interns jostling for position at a keg stand.

Now, when not embroiled in this frat boy meets political science 101 behavior, I am concerned to see the group acting as some sort of dating agency. I can understand the need for support on such groups, but really.... this is just to much and is cutting into all the on topic posts i enjoy reading. Enough is enough, please stop. Oh and stop giving the stargirl a hard time, just because she's not a regular doesn't mean she's not valid in her own approach to the situation.

I think you should take a good look at yourselves and the message you are sending to lurkers.

This is my first ever open letter, oh joy *happy dance*.Ok i'm over it.Greetings and thanks for all the input on this thread.I'm usually too busy to answer each post individually, plus i get bizarre attacks of spontaneous lethargy when it comes to replying to email, posts etc. Personally i blame it on the mind numbing effects of t.v (passivity and all that), but i digress.

I've got to say I am impressed with this news group. I'll still maintain there is a cliquish thing, but that arises in even the most benign of newsgroups. On the whole i think your a good group of people. I don't extend praise very often, but the Darianites do warm the cackles of my heart.

Phil, yes i was condescending in my reply to your posted offense I had to really, *really* hold back on replying as im afraid i would have felt the need to patronize you again. But i do respect your sensitivity, and im not going to say anything more.

Diane, I'm sorry to hear about your Father. I remember when we had a cancer scare a while back involving my dad. I wish you all the best.

I was having a bad week, and I perhaps over reacted, I do tend to put lots of smilies in my posts so that people are clear that I'm not serious and I guess your post just caught me off gaurd, and the dark side gained control for a while :) Didn't help when other people chipped in as well, that just served to irritate the situation more :) I don't really want to fight anyone on this news group or anywhere.... but not knowing you where only kidding, I didn't see why I had to take an insult on here that I wouldn't accept in real life :) Ok you where kidding I'll know better next time......

Affinity does have a point, though-- this can be a very cliquish group. I think it's because, well, frankly we don't get a whole lot of new people coming into the group and staying...
