Postings to alt.binaries.mtv.animation

I am posting several unedited episodes of Daria to a.b.m.a for all to enjoy. The ones I plan to post first are the high res ones, [200 MB]. Then I will post the medium res ones [50 MB]. If all of this is well recieved I will keep posting until the entire series, minus the movies, which are there now, is posted. I am posting only unedited, non-noggin, episodes. In return, I am asking that those lucky enough to have copies of Daria in high or medium resolution that aren't from noggin and haven't been edited to post them there or contact me to FTP them to me for uploading. Here is my list of episodes that i request because I only have them in low [12 MB realmedia] resolution.

FWIW, the group was yanked from both DirecTV DSL and usenetserver.com news servers a week or so back -- I assumed that the admins got a stroppy letter from Viacom.

I know RoadRunner provides servers, perhaps AOL's dialup does too.. Odds are you wont find anything free with alt.binaries.* unless your ISP provides it.

As it turns out, AOL does have a usenet server, butnow i need help downloading. how do you do it? ~LEXI

It's not as simple as that (but, nothing on the Internet is as simple as us old-timers act). You can either use the NNTP server provided by your ISP, or you can go with a comercial news provider. I have no idea what kind of Usenet (the common name for NNTP/Newsgroups) service AOL provides. I do know that most ISPs tend to have pretty second-tier NNTP service. My NNTP service of choice is giganews - www.giganes.com . While not free, they have resonable rates and have multiple servers across the USA alowing you to find the one that gives you the best throughput.

Be advised that web browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape/Mozilla, the AOL "program") and Outlook are about the worst NNTP programs out there and are pretty useless for downloading large multi-part files (and videos are HUGE!). I've heard good things about XNews. I prefer Gravity, but it's not in production anymore.
