So, what do ya'll (love that second person plural, eventhough I'm not from the south) think Daria has in her CD collection?
I though of this after watching WWIH, and putting on "This Year's Model" by Elvis Costello.
I personally think she would have Elvis's first three albums in heavy rotation. I remember coming home from school and playing "No Action" real loud....
hmmmm.... i'm gonna say mainly alteraitve/hard rock. i think some thing like spledora would be right up her alley. and probably the smashing pumpkins. some NIN. i want to say that she would have a beastie boys album, but she dosen't really seem like the type. ~po

This is probably true. Because excessive Beastie Boys intake usually leads to the tendency to shake one's booty. (see the Beavis and Butthead episode where they watch the "So What'cha Want" video if you don't believe me.) And Daria dosen't seem like someone who would dance even if no one would see her. "It's the soultrain. Beep beep. Get on board." Daria dancing. Now *that* would be something to see. I'll bet she could really go nuts in her own room, what with all the padding. Now that i think of it, Daria has just about the best room for a two-person mosh pit. She should have Trent and Jesse over sometime. On second thought, Trent's frail, brittle, exercise-deprived bones would probably snap pretty quickly in a mosh pit. Especially a Beastie Boys one. Jesse seems like the type that would go for something like that. So my conclusion is that Daria owns a Beastie Boys album, probably Paul's Boutique, and that when she listens to it, she lies perfectly still and stares at her ceiling. Which is quite simply a crime. One count of not shaking one's booty during a Beastie Boys song.

Mostly alternative, yes. A few world-rock discs: Tempest, Boiled in Lead. One or two selected soundtracks. Possibly at least one tape by Leslie Fish (probably "Firestorm" -- Daria would go for the title track, with its "We don't like the world we've made/We take World War Three in trade" lyrics -- or "Sister Jenny"). And a number of completely off-the-wall unclassifiable things like La Nef and Meredith Monk.

I'd have to think that there's got to be a good chuck of the Smiths/Morrissey catalog in her CD collection. If she heard The Smoking Popes' latest, "Destination Failure," it would be in serious rotation on her CD player. She's probably into at least some smart-ass pop like The Posies and that ilk. She may lay back and listen to anything by Social Distortion and dream that Trent's MS was that good. If she had any records by any of the women on The Lilith Tour, I'd be very disappointed in our young lady.
And, I'm sure Daria loves to play X's...

Some, if not all, of Patti Smith's albums. I think that the beauty and poetry of the songs would appeal to Daria.

I definetly agree... Beck's slacker, soothing music is definetly up to Daria's taste. And the depressing lyrics are definetly satisfactory for Daria also.

Yes, but, to my knowledge, never in her own room. In a couple of the early episodes, she was listening to music during "Sick, Sad World" commercial breaks. Once was at Jane's, and once was at Middleton College.
For what it's worth, in "The Daria Diaries" there's a boom box in Daria's room, and CDs under the bed. So....

No offense, but I think you're all way off.
Her collection would probably include:
Guided by Voices (except Mag Earwhig!) My Dad is Dead Polvo (the above three, because it takes people with real brains to appreciate them) Sonic Youth Nirvana ....maybe some vintage shoegazer stuff like My Bloody Valentine, (old) Ride) and maybe some (old) Swervedriver.
....she may even have dabbled in some other vintage stuff like the SST catalog (Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr., Black Flag, Meat Puppets, etc), and I'd bet she has some old Dischord stuff too (perhaps some Fugazi or Shudder to Think).

....and if Trent or his ilk has any influence, she will eventually forsake CD's for the warmer sound of vinyl (which does rule).
I actually doubt Daria's into music beyond Trent's band shows... and she only goes to see Trent anyway. She's more of the reading type. That's just a trend I've noticed.
