Mike Quinn just wants people to know that he's done Delayed Action Reviews of the Daria episodes "Fizz Ed", "Sappy Anniversary", and "Fat Like Me". He might be doing at least 3 more in April, but the reviews of "Camp Fear", "The Story of D", and "Lucky Strike" will be delayed until April, at least.

Last things first, now that I've seen it, Quinn had Ken sussed completely, she just (very intelligently) chose the best way to present it to her mother. Whining that she thinks this substitute teacher is hitting on students would probably get a resistance that Quinn would have to overcome by selling the idea. Just presenting a description and letting her mother connect the dots unleashes Hurricane Helen immediately.
Quinn was right, Daria was an easy teacher, she didn't give any Fs, not even to the three versions of Sandi's paper (the one with Sandi's name, the one with Tiffany's name, and the one with Stacey's name).
Stacey's right, they shouldn't have copied off each other. They should have copied off Quinn (Daria would probably have given them points for picking the right person to copy from).
Who said Cubey and Brittany are dumb? They picked up the concept of having Daria write notes pretty much immediately.

Someone commented that it took Quinn a while to realize how much Daria had complimented her. It looked to me like it took her about a second. She stopped in mid-word, her face went pink, then she quietly left the room.
What I liked about Quinn's acknowledgement; she did it After she made Sandi cave, not under the threat.
I bet Quinn has Sandi's little mons... brothers wrapped around her finger. Hey, they're boys, Quinn's Quinn.
Tom's up in Daria's room and Helen didn't pop in once? Falling down on the job Mrs. Morgendorffer.
Of course, having a student teach one of the classes isn't something they would be able to do if it were a live action show (long-time Buffy fans are not allowed to respond to this).
Assuming Quinn really had Edwards figured out, another motive for her indirect approach could be that Quinn is VERY uncomfortable about sexual matters. We've seem numerous times how little she likes to be touched, and in "The Teachings of Don Jake" she ran away covering her ears when she thought (wrongly) that Jake was talking about puberty.
Quinn would not want to get into an exchange like:
QUINN: Uh, Mom. I think our English sub is trying to hit on Tiffany ...
HELEN: What!!?? Did he touch her on her ...
QUINN: (turning red) Mo-MMM!!
I thought Stacy might have been smarter than to do this. Of course, maybe she's still struggling with the difference between Margaux and Ernest Hemingway (which episode was that?) and Shakespeare's way out of her grasp?

Speaking of Brittany, I don't think anyone's yet mentioned one of the funniest lines in the episode:
MRS. STOLLER: And so the people asked George Washington "will you be our new king?" and Washington replied ...

The book "The Daria Diaries" says they both play to marry Quinn. So I think we're talking about a couple of serious crushes here.

You can't fool all the people all the time...some of them are busy fooling you.
The beginning of the scene showed the whole class turning in their seats to listen - because Sandi was being deliberately loud about it. Daria was shown listening too at the beginning.
It also looked like Quinn was looking straight at Daria when she said "she's my sister". But we couldn't actually see Daria at that point in the scene.

Kinda reminds me of "TWT,TID" when they're at the flea market, and Trent was (if you look closely at his eyes) clearly NOT asleep during the "I guess you're going to wait" line, which to me is evidence that he knew about the erstwhile infatuation all along.

It may not be a matter of intelligence. I think there are probably a few intelligent people out there who have trouble with Shakespeare. The problem is primarily the language. It's very difficult for many people. Not for me, but that's because I'm an English major and a confirmed Shakespeare nut. It might well be difficult for Stacy, who's probably of average intelligence.
She might well have. And the reason why Stacy, Tiffany, and Sandi didn't get F's was because Sandi at least realized that the movie and the play are connected -- she showed a modicum of thinking, though not much, as we all know.
I thought that funny, too, but there were so many GOOD bits, there's bound to be a few that slip past the notice of the viewer at first. :)

Well, either this chronologically happened before the events of "The Story of D", or else Daria managed to convince her mother that she could be trusted to not make the same mistake Erin made.
I wouldn't know if that would happen in a live-action show or not, but I do know this -- few (if any) live-action shows would probably have a student teach as WELL as the writers had Daria teach.

I know you haven't seen most of the early episodes, but as I recall, she showed her aversion to touching or being touched in several episodes: The Invitation, Last Year's Model, and Daria Dance Party come to mind.
She also shows discomfort with sexual matters in "Depth Takes a Holiday", though that's a kind of weird fantasy episode, so I don't know if it really counts.
True enough. But even paying attention to classroom discussion, without even reading the play, would enable one to do better than a D-minus on such an open-ended question.

Well, we didn't see Daria's reaction, either way. I wonder if that was actually in the scene, and someone at MTV cut it to fit in another commercial. Anyone who would do that deserves to trip over a remote-control toy car, fall down a flight of stairs, break a leg, lay in bed and get fat. :-) :-)

Would you really want Daria to have a big reaction to it? When have you ever seen Daria act that way? It would be so out-of-character to see her, say, running up to Quinn, bawling: "Oh, Quinn! You *finally* acknowledged that you're my sister! I *knew* you loved me!!!!" and giving her a huge hug.
Okay, I'm exaggerating. But the way it was handled--with the conversation in Daria's room later--was perfect. "Goodnight......sis."

On the other hand, her "trying to fertilize Tiffany" line was a perfect subtle yet explicit sexual reference, and perfectly contextual. Not only that, she delivered it in such a perfect deadpan that Daria should be deeply envious.
It's a trait Quinn's shown a hint of before.

Well may Daria say "You're not one of them." And well may Quinn call Daria "sis."

Have you seen "Daria Dance Party"? The look on Quinn's face when her two dates start squeezing up against her (one in front, one in back) during the slow dance gives a pretty good idea of her attitude to the subject. To quote from the transcript at Outpost Daria:
"Quinn - Ewww! (pushes them away) Get your big, sweaty hands off of me! I don't slow dance until after the fifth date. (runs outside)"
I'm pretty sure Quinn's attitude toward sex has been established in other episodes as well. In fact, I don't think anyone in the Fashion Club has ever had a serious relationship with a boy. (Of course, given the quality of the boys at Lawndale High, I don't blame them...)
Again, though, it could have been either ignorance or laziness on Sandi's part. If you've had it drilled into your head that smart people are geeks and losers, you're not likely to make much effort to learn.
Yep. I was reviewing my tape and I noticed that in the first scene of the teachers protesting, Mr. DeMartino's sign reads "Will Work for Food." Priceless!
