Truth Can Be Stranger Then Fiction, Pardon my spelling grammer, I am only semi-sobber

Monday I returned to school after Semester Break,

The morning consisted of me and my friends terrorizing the frosh and generally wasteing time and brainstorming for ways to drive the new principal to early retirment like the last one was. Anyway for purposes of space if my school Queen ********* High School in ********** Canada ends up on FRONTLINE or The 5th Estate I don't think anyone will be that shocked.

Anyway, After lunch the entire school was seated in the lecture hall waiting for our first glimpse at the new principal. Out walks a middle aged Asian woman in a light blue pant-suit, Ms.Andrea Li !

Spooky!

Anyway, This woman seems to feel there is a serious risk of students being kidnapped, So, What does she feel is a good solution to this non-existant threat? Well, Since it seems Fire regulations are nothing more then a socialist intrusion it seems sealing off most of the doors is a good solution and the remaining doors will require a special smartcard to entere!

Then, There is the dresscode, Basically as it exists now shirt, tie and pants\skirt. Who could possibly have a problem with that? Well Ms.Andrea Li does, Effective April 1st. we will be required to wear YELLOW PANTS and a RED sweaters, This will enhance school spirit and reduce the potnetial for shooting sprees. Aside from the fact this is Canada and it takes 18 Months to get a gun it seems she is concered about that.

She also has a problem with laptops and palm pilots, pagers, cellphones, gameboys, Discmans, Walkmans, MD's and damn near everything else. They will now be confiscated on sight!

And Sponcers, Christ!

Every 5 feet there is some sort of Pepsi merchandice, the computer lab is plastered with those retarded "Think Differant" posters from Apple, And on the computer desktop about a third of the screen is taken up with a commerical banner, advertising everyhing from Zit Cream to "female products" and there is discussion of sceeding the cafeteria to McDonalds!

A mural of the Royal Family as it was in 1946 when the school opened has been painted over with a surfing Mountain Dew Can!

Tommorow I almost expect to walk into the Social Studies room and be face to face with Mr.DeMartino!

Yeah, that happens constantly at most schools ... ;-)

I'm curious ... has *anyone* ever been kidnapped from your school?

That should be amusing in any sort of evacuation situation. Don't you trust the staff to remember to open all the doors in such case?

Yes, I can see how the basic human instinct not to shoot people wearing yellow pants and red sweaters ... oh, no, wait, isn't that the identification system of some sort of bird?

Well, it's not like anyone who was going to murder people would go "Oh no, I can't, it would be *illegal* to buy a gun without a license.* In most cities, you can buy guns on the black market.

Why? I'm slightly curious about that, especialy since the laptops and palm pilots are of obvious educational use ...

Oh, my God. That's just plain *gross*. Did they do it in such a way as to destroy the underlying mural?

Sincerely Yours, Jordan

What blows me away was when I left before break the school was just fine with the exception of the principal driven into early retirement.

In all fairness, This school is a collection of the 1300 most spoiled over-sexed rich brats on the continent and the school board was looking for the Rudy Guilianni of principals.

I glanced at Remarq and it seems that not all the postings there appeared on Usenet,

So I will answer the questions individually,

To my knowledge there has never been a kidnapping,

Wait, that isn't true, last year I was an accessory to the kidnapping of "Casey The Cardinal" but I don't think stealing a 7' styrofoam bird coun'ts

In Canada we have a pretty effective method of controlling that problem but I don't think it would go over very well.

Education is a very dangerious thing after-all, But I guess young women condemed to a life on welfare and their children living in poverty only to continue the cycle is a lesser evil then enlightenment.

That might be an explanantion if the measure was "live births to teen mothers", not pregnancies. You could then say, hey, no more kids there are getting pregnant than kids elsewhere; it's just fewer of them having abortions (and I would commend them for keeping their babies, of course, but I know you and I have different views, Michelle).

But it's teen *pregnancy* that's being discussed, so other factors have to be at work.

Well it's a large amount of word choice which will show your bias (even when people- like the news- try to pretend they're not)... often they will so "anti-abortion" but then "pro choice", never "pro-abortion", which would be fair... it shows their stance in favor abortion just in their word choice.

Actually, "pro choice" and "anti abortion" *are* correct terms to identify these sides. Those who are pro choice (like me) wish to keep the choice of having abortion remain safe and legal so we can have a choice to decide for ourselves legally whether we want an abortion or not; those who are anti abortion are vehemently trying to get abortion outlawed. There are in reality very few "pro life" people in this forces; a MUCH larger amount of pro lifers are in the "pro choice" camp (like I consider myself pro life and pro choice; I want abortion to remain legal so I can have a choice in this matter, and in my own personal life I consider myself to be pro life, i.e. I would never choose abortion). It's really easy to do both too...and just because I don't want abortion in my own life doesn't mean I would want to foist that decision onto others...I recognize that females should have a right to decide on their own and that the whole idea of males actually being impacted on by this decision is simply ludicrous to me...unless a male can turn up pregnant (in which case abortion would probably be free, safe, legal, AND a major non-entity in discussions), no male will ever be as impacted by this decision as any female who walks around this Planet Earth.

LOL...don't ever get me started on this subject... ;)

When you consider child support and 'father instincts,' it's ludicrous to say that men are not affected at all. I'll accept that we're not affected as strongly, but I'll also get really anal about making sure that qualifier is where it should be.

That's better.

That's the issue with ANY law though.... whether it is something that people should have the choice to do or not. Pro "choice" could as easily refer to any other issue out there. You could say "pro abortion rights" instead of "pro abortion", but "pro choice" is really silly.

Yes they can. For one thing, the child that is just as much as his as hers, she can kill without his permission. Don't think that doesn't leave an emotional scar on a man, I've seen it (right around the same time Rick's war buddy died, the girlfriend of a friend of mine had an abortion. I felt like the misery chick that week... there an on-topic comment)... and I really doubt abortion would cease controversy were males "affected" like you say, as there are a lot of women who support anti-abortion legislation... the fact is, there is no reason besides pure laziness and selfishness a woman would need an abortion (in most cases.... rape cases etc are different) with the availability of birth control being just about everywhere (and the universal availability of abstinance)

Yeah, back in the sixties when abortion was legalised society was *so* less patriarchal than it is today. ;:-/

Some feminists regard the legalisation of abortion (by predominantly male legislatures) as the ultimate patriarchal dumping on women: men evading their responsibilities as fathers at the cost of the children they had helped conceive, and at the cost of the women who bear the mental, emotional, and spiritual scars of having had abortions. These feminists might say the exact opposite to the statement above: if men had to live (to the same degree as women) with the consequences of having an abortion, it'd never have been legalised.

And if anyone believes that no man ever reacted to the news that he'd fathered a child by pressing the woman to have an abortion, they're not living on the same planet as I am.

My personal approach to this issue has been posted here before, and I don't plan to got through it all in depth. *If* anyone wants to pursue this issue: Dejanews is your friend! Basically, I believe every human being has equal rights, and the right to live cannot be set aside in favour of someone else's less fundamental right. I know if my mum (God rest her) had had an abortion, I wouldn't be here. That's as much proof as I need to convince me that abortion is the taking of human life.

Mississippi Really isn't THAT conservative. I Imagine the main reason for teen pregnancy, here at least, is lower socio-economic status. On the not THAT conservative note; I'm actually pretty liberal right now I'm even a member of the communist party though I'm sure I'm gonna get out of it though seing how they say marxist-leninist and I don't like the leninist at the end of that. And on that note I want to let off some steam: For some reason communism is always equated with oppression and censorship when in fact cuba, north vietnam, ussr et. all were never communism they were state socialism they were not dictatorships of the proletarian variety but of the minority. It was despotism or facism use your favored term but communism only by name. Please correct me if I'm wrong I just needed to vent.

There was an MTV special (back when I used to watch more than "Daria" on MTV...in fact the show wasn't even on at the time) where they compared night life in a small Indiana town to night life in NYC, and it turned out that while New Yorkers are far more cynical and less spiritually minded, the small Indiana town teens were far more likely to have casual sex. And after looking at that special and comparing where I'm at to the small town, I counted my lucky stars. I mean, at least over here we have a lot of music stores to browse through, as well as Barnes & Noble, Borders, lots of malls (yeah, even I go...there are a lot of crafts stores in the malls here), Pier 1 Imports (which is expensive as hell but great fun to browse through), various video rental stores, skating rinks, bowling alleys, movie theaters, amusement parks, the whole downtown area, museums, art galleries, clubs, etc., etc., etc.

Well, having been to Fremont, besides being freaked out by narrow streets, I noticed there's really nothing there... the center of town has a grocery store and a Wal-Mart... so it's not real damn suprising that the high school girl who works at the library spends her time out smoking pot and getting drunk. Beats hanging out at Wal Mart... (although Andy, who adores Grand Rapids's Wal Mart, may disagree)

Here we at least have a million malls and two big ass movie theatres (one of which used to be the biggest in the world until the rest of the world caught on to building 20 screen theatres and so it sorta fell behind). and... umm... sports, lots of that, and churches, and a pretty cool downtown. More than Fremont, at least. Not that we don't have teen pregnancy and drug use (a lot at Kelloggsville- though I wouldn't be suprised if Grandville topped them in abortions) although there's probably more use of birth control, we have a Planned Parenthood (and abortions, unfortunately, are common for girls with no planning who are afraid that a child may infringe on their popularity and social life)...
