Ok i'm here just waiting to get a reply as this is my first time on this thingy. ok i'd best think up a question. right, if Daria was english i think she would get sooo much grief at school. Any one like Daria, ie. with a brain gets picked on by the dumb asses. How can Daria still talk to the cheer leader girl (sorry can't remember her name) and Kevin with out laughing out loud at their completely stupid personas? Well i couldn't stop my self but i guess they're kinda lovable! Any way please reply! Ally

The whole thing about newsgroups is that they're asynchronous. I.e., people don't all have to be there at the same time, you put your messages up and people read them when they happen to be online next, so you can have ongoing discussions despite people often living on opposite sides of the world to one another. When you're writing, a lot of your potential readers are tucked up in bed as they're 8 hours behind in California, but it doesn't matter as usenet newsgroup messages will typically remain available for people to collect from their ISP for a whole week.

It used to be the case that you wouldn't expect people to reply to your messages for at least a day and sometimes three. However the net is getting faster and people are online more and at weirder hours so sometimes now I find people respond within hours, sometimes in less than an hour. But if you can't wait at least 24 hours then maybe you're in the wrong medium. Usenet is a reflective medium where people read and respond at their leisure. This is a written medium after all. Sometimes people will spend hours mulling over a post before posting a response to it (though admittedly kneejerk responses are getting increasingly common). For instant gratification you need to use IRC chatrooms. The difference with Usenet is that your words can be read by many thousands of people over an extended period of time, in fact they may well persist for all time thanks to the fact that newsgroup messages are archived in various places round the world. With this in mind, people are not always inclined to post hasty reponses (though some do), and may want to spend honing their words so as to show their egos to best effect.

Ahh, "es" is "it is" rather than "it has"... Now I'm not sure about this, and I'm probably mixing it up with French, but I think it'd be "Hay [or "hago"?] m�s de un a�o despues saqu� espa�ol" or something like that. OK, forget it, that made absolutely no sense. Never mind, I'll just go away and revise for my Spanish exam now, which is probably quite futile as no matter how much I revise I'm NOT LEARNING ANYTHING!! And it's SO annoying!! And I'm going to get an even worse grade than I got in the mock!!!

I didn't notice that, I don't think her/his other messages were signed. Do any UK readers recall that other Alli, Allisaurus, who used to be on the C4 animation Mosschops? It was a brilliant and historically accurate series about a bunch of dinosaurs and the adventures they had, narrated by Bernard Cribbins.
