Rantings about whatshotnow.com's postal charges

I checked out whatshotnow's Daria goodies, and decided to order one of those funky black satchels with the patch of Jane on 'em. When I got to the 'checkout' area, they wanted $35.00 (AU$70!!) for postage to Australia. Can you say huge over inflation? I have friends in the US and am constantly sending stuff to them, and nothing I've ever sent has ever cost that much. I've sent bags and big items before, and the most it's ever been was $30 (about $14 US dollars). I know sites have to make a profit, but I think $35 is a little bit much.

Places that have to ship overseas will inflate the prices. That's how I end up paying like $15 (American) for a mass market paperback. Grrr... stupid Americans, why can't you like Spike Milligan? Why, why, why?

And I'm gonna have to repeat the experience when the new book on Vivian Stanshall comes out. That'll be fun... (goodbye, paycheck)

I know I ended up spending close to $45 American just so I could have the Duran Duran "Greatest" video on NTSC format. Now I find myself looking at the music video shelves at Suncoast Video and weeping because they have an import "Greatest" NTSC video (from Canada) for only $25 American. Oh well, I did have to spend 17 pounds at a Virgin Megastore in London just so I could have Duran Duran's "Strange Behaviour" 2-CD remix compilation, which is pretty much in line with what I see the import compilation going for at places like Best Buy and Borders.

(ugh, but I'd *kill* for Nick Rhodes' "Interference" book...oh WHY can't I find it outside of the extortionist eBay? *whimper*)
