Movie rebroadcast edited?

I decided to re-tape the movie today, as I had missed the start of the opening song. Well, in addition to having comercials (a damn long break right after the tutor showed up), it seems to have been edited for time. What caught my ear was when the tutor shows up. He asks if Daria is Quinn, and Daria makes reference to the 9th level of hell. Unless I missed it, todays version was missing his comment that that was a Dante reference. Sigh... any word on a dvd release?

After Link stormed out of his meeting with Uncle Timothy, Daria notices him and says to the chess players, "Keep up the good work" and goes after Link. That line was edited, as were others. There's no excuse for that, as far as I'm concerned.

Of course there isn't. The only reason is so that MTV can cut down on actual programming airtime. This is a pretty common practice with TV shows re-run in syndication: small lines that don't necessarily effect the plot are cut out so that an additional minute or so of commercial time can be added into a given program block.

...unless of course they had it made in such a way that a "commercial-free" broadcast could be hyped, and then a few "non-essential" pieces of dialog be chopped to free up extra commercial time in the re-broadcast time slot. That's something I wouldn't at all put past MTV.

Now I'm *really* glad that I taped the movie on Sunday. That would've pissed me off a *lot*.

On the upside, I noticed they didn't seem to show as many commercials as during a normal 'Daria' ep. Normally the commercial breaks seem to be very long -- nearly five minutes, especially the one before the final act. In the showing of the movie that I saw, the day after the premiere, the commercial breaks only came every 20 minutes or so -- rarely enough that I was able to actually get engrossed in the show -- and didn't seem as painfully long as a normal MTV profit break. Maybe the ad spots for the movie sold better than for the series.

Another part that was cut out was when Sandy is telling the Fashion Club that she is goin to the bahamas and that she would participate in any luows(sp?). And then Sandi tells her that she sounds just like her mom.
