Hope that's enough. That woman was so, creepy. But she was very realistic at the same time. I find it amusing that this episode pointed out a lot of things about teenagers and marketing, and look at what station it's on. I can relate at the end, with the "new group" thing and then having someone that knows nothing about you or you're group write a tell all article. But I stand now and proclaim: I am a proud anti-teen!

And, you know, the scariest part about it is that "Val" magazine reminded me SO much of all those teenybopper magazines I used to partake of when I was ten and eleven, trying to be a teen or something. God. Thank God by the time I was 13 I'd grown out of them and into "Rolling Stone" and "Time". Thank GOD.

And with me it's been two years. But I'll proclaim myself an "anti-teen". (Don't no one comment on my obsessive fascination with Duran Duran now...they've not been like that for over a decade.)

Ah, the lure of marketing. I'm guessing that the current style of bell bottoms, which I hated when I was 5, is a product of marketing and magazines like Val. And since I'm 10 years past high school, will somebody tell me if the word *edgy* is actually used in those types of magazines.

I think COSMO is the VAL magazine for adults. It scares me!

It's been <sniffle> almost 10 years since I was a teenager, so Deena, my one comment on your obsessive Duran fascination is that I was 13 in '83 at their most popular, you were what, 5? You had good taste for a kid! :-)

*snif* I didn't get into them until the beginning of the '90s, when I was a preteen. So I guess I DIDN'T have that good a taste. Hmph. (Oh yeah, and in 1983 I was 5, just so you'll know.)

Actually, I think that Val is based on that Jane whatsername, who used to have the talk show on Lifetime, and later came out with a teen magazine named "Jane".

Cosmo takes an exceedingly cold attitude towards love and sex. It's a major part of the "treat other people like conveniences" culture which has been dominant since the 1970's, to our sorrow.

Bell bottoms. *Shudder* I remember my sister wearing platform shoes and a halter top, and I was thinking, "God, when will the 70s *end*???" The only really cool thing that happened in the 70s was when Skylab reentered the atmosphere and made a really cool fireworks show for all. Everything else pretty much sucked. Think of it as one long assault on the eyes.

10 years as well for me... and I never could understand why the girls were always screaming at Duran Duran concerts. (The Wag in me wants to say "So they don't have to listen to the music," but that would be mean. ;-) I will give DD credit, though, they sure did capture the early 80s in a nutshell-- and the music wasn't too bad, but I never would've admitted it at the time. ;-) )
