Just to let fellow UK Darianites know that I've emailed the Duty Office at c5, asking if c5 plan to repeat Series One once the present run of S2 finishes a week tommorrow, and asking when we can expect to see Series Three aired on c5.

I saw the C5 website a few weeks ago and noticed they didn't have Daria listed. It seems C5 and MTV share the same promotional department. Some of the shows on C5 sound like they could be hosted by Troy McClure: "Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from Wowfabgroovy and the Pepsi Chart Show."
I also noticed that C5 airs the american shows Night Stand and the Oprah Winfrey Show. I'm very sorry that those of you in the UK have to put up with these shows. We tried to contain Oprah but her powers have proven to be too much for us to control. I always said that she should have been stopped when she had a local talk show in Chicago. Nobody listened to me, now it's too late. I don't know how they got Night Stand, I thought it was cancelled years ago. We have many programs that are much better than these two. It makes me so sad to think the world might judge Americans by what they see on Night Stand or Jerry Springer. *sigh*

I hate to think that anyone judges Americans by any of our television programs (except Daria of course... and maybe Third Rock From the Sun). It's almost as bad as the PBS stations who show "Are You Being Served?" obsessively so that that's all people think of when they think of British comedy.

Yep, excepting Daria, c5 is not renowned for its profound contribution to British culture. The only episode I saw of the programme that follows Daria (ie "Singled Out") was, in my opinion, a fine specimen of shallow, mindless, loveless, pulp, feeding on the willingness of its participants to court humiliation in order to get on the telly, and turning the search for affection into a circus for prurient voyeurs. That is to say, I didn't like it. 8-|
Showing Daria is c5's redemption.
Yes, it's a frightening prospect that some of my fellow Britons will be watching that pap and going, "Tut! Americans! Just look at them!" *Some* people are happy to say things about Americans (or Catholics) that they would (properly) get angry about, if they heard someone say it about blacks or Jews.

That sums it up quite nicely. Even if you turn the TV off they are still in there, willing to debase themselves on a grand scale and the producers are willing to let them in the name of profit.

IMHO people should, instead, focus their aggresion and ignorant hatred on the proliferation of bad television. The world could be a better place if we stopped hating each other and started hating the hastily assembled army of Sienfeld clones.

Sounds like Cilla Black's "Blind Date" show, which I think is also based on a US show. It was described as "degrading television" in some European Commission report about TV standards. Britain was trying to block hard core porn satellite TV channels, but the EC cited Blind Date as evidence that the UK was not in principle against TV shows that degrade & humiliate people.

Thanks for the info. At about 2250 GMT tonight it was up and running again. http://www.sylvesternet.freeserve.co.uk/members/daria/survey.htm Bravenet had a hard drive meltdown, and restored from the 28 December backup. So if anyone has taken the survey between 28 December and today (you would have been participant 60 or greater), have another go!
This seems to show that the survey process had been successfully restored, but, at the time you visited, the file with my stats hadn't been.

It was purely by serendipity that I came across Daria on c5. I hope I don't miss the start of Series Three. Whoever spots it when it's trailed, or when it appears in the schedules, please post the news here for those of us who might have missed it. Ah, go on.

And it seems MTV has stopped showing Daria at midnight on Saturday. At least thats what it says in the TV guide, and you all know how strictly MTV sticks to it's schedules.
Watching Daria both on C5 and MTV, I completely lost track of which episodes I'd seen (I think I've seen tham all, at least once). Having got the video for Christmas, I want to watch the first season again, but it looks like that may not happen. Even if MTV Europe continues to show Daria, they'll probably repeat series 2, randomly, ad nauseum. (And yes, you can get sick of a good thing, when shown like that; qv Dexter's Lab on Cartoon Network).
