I've got a few fanfic related bio questions I can't find answers to. I've missed a few of episodes of the last season, as well as IICY, so maybe some of these have been answered there.
1: How far is it from Lawndale to Boston. Rough tavel time? 2: What state is Lawndale in? 3: What color are Daria's eyes? 4: How old was Alison (art camp)? 5: Where does Aunt Amy live? How far away from Lawndale? 6: Is Aunt Amy married? Have kids? 7: Does Quinn really go to The Rocky Horror Picture Show dressed as Magenta? (Okay, this one's a joke...)
Until IICY? aired no one knew that Lawndale was anywhere near Boston. It was quite the revelation after 5 years of heated speculation regarding the location of Lawndale.

Any Aunt Amy information is open for speculation since the show never revealed this information. Although we did get to see her living room in the episode "Through A Lens Darkly"
On the PPMB (Paperpusher Messageboard) there was quite a heated discussion about this particular subject. However it looks like it has since been purged so it's lost to posterity. Unless someone out there managed to save it.

The most solid clue we've ever gotten is revealed in IICY? - the Zip Code on one of Daria's letters from college is visible. Though I don't remember precisely what it is, the Zip Code is for an area just outside of St. Louis, MO. There is no such town as Lawndale there, and I have no idea if the climate & landscape matches that of Daria's home, but as I said, it's the only really solid piece of evidence there is.
Therefore, travel time to Boston would be two days, one if you really pushed it.
We've seen two close-ups - once in Through a Lens Darkly, once in Quinn the Brain. In neither case was a bright color visible. Therefore, we can assume they're dark brown.
Older than Jane - she referred to Jane as a "high school kid" in a derisive manner, indicating that Allison herself is out of high school. She was able to order wine at the restaurant, and though a fake ID isn't out of the question, it's easier to asume she's over 21. Beyond that, who knows?
Close enough to drive there in a few hours or less. She did this in "Aunt Nauseum".
Since she brought neither a date nor children to Erin's wedding, nor has she ever mentioned either, we can safely assume she's single and childless.
In the lost, unaired episode "Let's Do The Time Warp With Quinn" she did indeed go dressed as Magenta, and was nearly thrown out of the Fashion Club as a result. Only the fact that Sandi was hit on the head with a particularly stale piece of toast and suffered amnesia as a result saved the day.
Where could I download the lost episode "Let's Do The Time Warp With Quinn"? I have been able to download "Sealed with a kick" the unaired pilot off of Kazaa but have never seen references to that one.
Two days? Hmmm. Trent (IIRC) seems to find the idea of playing gigs in Boston appealing. Would he drive two days to play a gig? Maybe if they were doing a nini-tour or something.
That was my assumption. I didn't want someone calling me on it if they straight-out said that she had green eyes at some point. Her eyes have never been shown with any color at all, even during her Beavis and Butthead days.
I got the feeling that she was 24 or so.
And it's close enough to drive to whatever town Erin lives in (we assume that Erin got married in the town she lives in) in "I Don't". Yeah, so a few hours away at most.
Which at her age can only mean one thing: She's a librarian!

Useless trivia: RHPS was released the same year Helen and Jake got married.
How far a person is willing to drive in a day can vary wildly from person to person, and can be impacted by other circumstances as well. For example, every year, I am willing to drive about 9 hours in a single day just to go to the Origins convention in Collumbus, Ohio, and then make that same drive back on a Sunday afternoon. However, I won't make the 3 hour drive to Atlanta for DragonCon simply because I hate trying to navigate the maze that is Atlanta and think whomever is responsible for Atlanta's traffic system should be dragged through the streets and beaten with sticks.
It's also possible that Amy drove in the day before, stayed at a motel, came to the wedding and was planning to stay at the hotel again that night then leave the next morning.

That and "The Cove" is only four hours away from Lawndale. "The Cove" (wherever that actually is) would be on the coast, would it not? (I'm assuming, I know.) I keep thinking of Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyad (sp?) when I think of "The Cove". This puts Lawndale about four to six hours from Boston, IMHO.
It also puts it too far from any deserts for "Speedtrapped" to happened, or for it to snow as infrequently as it does (Daria's Dance Party, Antisocial Climbers).

Nowhere did the show indicate that they didn't stop at a hotel on the way there and back. In fact, I think it's likely they did.
Why would Daria be so ticked over missing her chance to see RAFT if it was only a half-day's drive? She could easily go back some other time. It only makes sense if it's a major undertaking to go there.
Well, I'm no meteorologist, but I don't think it would be unheard of for that part of the country to receive the edge of a hurricane that struck the Gulf of Mexico. I'll ask my friend who took classes like that in college and see what he says.
I'm about 100 miles north of St. Louis. While we don't get actual hurricanes this far inland, we do occasionally get seriously bad weather that originally comes from a hurricane. So it wouldn't be unheard of for people to talk about a hurricane on the way, although they probably wouldn't use that word exclusively since it's not a hurricane anymore by the time it gets here.
I thought that's what I said? They did stop at a hotel after staying around Bromwell for a day and a night.
In doing so they used up the time to view other colleges such as Raft hanging around Bromwell.
Even so, if they didn't have to stop and view other colleges it would take about half a day to get to Raft from Lawndale and another half a day to get back.
In the midwest and the south storms of that intensity are called tornadoes.
Yes - my point is that if it's only a half-day's drive to Boston from Lawndale, then it's not a big deal that Daria missed out on seeing Raft on that occasion, and she had no reason to be so upset about it. She could easily drive there on her own, look around, talk to some people, and drive back the same day.
The fact that she isn't able to do that tells me that it takes longer than a half-day to get there, and that one must stay overnight somewhere on the road between Lawndale and Boston.
Therefore, Daria and the Sloanes left on, say, Thursday (leaving right after school) drove halfway, stayed overnight somewhere, drove to Bromwell, spent the day there (Friday, skipping school), spent the night there, drove to Raft the next day (Saturday), got there too late to see anything due to traffic, started home after driving through the campus, stayed over Saturday night somewhere in between, drove all day Sunday, and got back to Lawndale that evening.
Now, Daria's not going to be able to make the trip again before summer, because she'd have to take another day off school and at the close of your senior year that's sometimes just not possible. That's why she's so upset over not being able to see Raft. If it were easy to get there, she could do it the next weekend, no big deal, and while she might be mildly upset she probably wouldn't be as ticked as she is.
This is all pure speculation of course, but I think it's the theory that best fits the facts, and it's what I'm going with for fanfic.
The trip from Lawndale was not to Boston, however. It was to "Newtown", where Bromwell is. It's at least half a day from Newtown to Boston. We don't really know how far it is from Lawndale to Newtown, however.

The problem here is that the admittance staff is not going to be on campus on a Saturday. They had to be at Raft on a weekday, period. We know that they were in Newtown overnight and spent most of the next day either eating breakfast with Mr. Annoying, or stuck in terrible traffic and bad weather. Other than that, we don't know anything about the trip other than Daria needed a rather large bag of clothes and it was longer than just a few hours.
I don't think she's as much mad at missing her chance to have an interview at Raft as she is about feeling like the Sloanes really don't give a crap about her and what she wants/needs; the almost casual way Kay shrugs off Daria's needs for her (Kay's) socializing.
This is also some of the building tension that leads to Daria and Tom's breakup. Daria's claim of "being bored" is her being nice, IMHO. The truth is that they were never compatible and the differences in their familie's attitudes were too much to overcome.
I'm going for the MO setting for Lawndale, as most facts seem to fit. I was watching "Pinch Sitter" tonight and the Gumpty kids make a reference to the Midwest weather report of some kind, which you would only really get if you lived in the Midwest.
You know, that might also be about the only place that makes sense geographically as well.
The cruise ship from "Just Add Water" might just be on the Mississippi River. The desert we see in "Speedtrapped" may be in Oaklahoma". The mountains seen in "Antisocial Climbers" may be the Osarks. It also explains how Daria and Quinn are able to drive to a summer camp they stayed at while living in Texas (Camp Fear), and how the family was able to drive to a wedding heavily populated by Scarlet O' Hara wannabes (I Don't). (I'm operating on the assumption that the "hurricane" in "Daria!" is just a really big thunder storm.)
The only other place that really has all of those geographical features is California, I think.
Is there anything in IICY to actually confirm that Daria, Tom and his mother actually drove from the Morgandorfer's house to Boston, rather than to the airport, then picked up a rental car and drove out to Bromwell?
Really? I thought Sandi just refused to admit that night even happened because she also saw her father there dressed as Dr. Frankenfurter.

Yes. We get to see Kay Sloane's car either leaving or returning to the Morgendorffers (I forget which) and it's the same car she's driving in Boston. while it's conceivable that she rented the same make, model, and color car in Boston as she drives at home, it's a little unlikely.
Maybe she actually owns two identical cars, one for each coast?
