Has anyone realized this?

It's been almost exactly one year since IICY? aired? I came across my planner from last year, and as I was looking through it realized that this Tuesday will be the one year anniversary of the end of Daria.

Actually, it was Glenn's idea to end the series. He wanted to keep the show from going into becoming mediocre.

Yes folks, today (January 21, 2003) is the one-year anniversary of the last first-run episode of "Daria" in the ol' U. S. of A.

After IICY aired, I thought, "There goes the last bastion of sanity and intelligence on MTV. Guess it's time to delete this channel from my tv & vcr. Oh, well, life will go on, I guess."

Kinda like the way that some folks like to restore old cars or furniture or houses.). And, believe it or not, there is other stuff on TV to watch. (Anyone checking out "Gilmore Girls" on the WB? That show's humor is so, well, "Daria-esque." Well worth your time!) And sooner or later, I may even have a love life again & find "Mr. Right" instead of "Mr. He'll-Do-For-Now"('scuse me while I look out the window to see if the pigs are flying).

But, alas, there is still a little something missing in my life -- my weekly dose of uncut Daria on TV. I started watching it on the N! and decided it wasn't worth staying up late to watch and then having to mainline a pot or two of coffee at work the next day to stay awake (my job is just OKAY, not FANTASTIC-- I mean, they've sent people home if the caffeine supplies get too low). I've been pleasantly surprised that most of the fansites are still active (thanks, Martin J. and Father M!) and that this ng is still going strong. Plus, I've got about a dozen tapes of Daria episodes, and I got the first of two (hint, hint MTV) Daria DVDs for Christmas. Yeah, I guess I have enough of Our Heroine to get me through the rest of the millenium.

However, I am well aware of the underpriveleged, the less fortunate, the "Daria-impoverished" who have never known the pleasure, the joy, the rapture, the incredible sensation, the intellectual experience that IS Daria Uncut. (Dang, I need to get out more!)

Therefore on this, the first year of Daria's farewell, I'm going into Sally Struthers mode and ask you (imagine a tearful voice) to please, do all you can, to get Daria uncut to the less fortunate.

First, sign the "Daria on DVD" e-mail petition, to let the beancounters & marketing folks at MTV know that there are lots of people who will shell out legal tender to have all 65 episodes -- and the pilot-- on home video. You can do this on Outpost Daria:

Second, Daria needs to be shown on a channel other than Noggin here in the US. It's on at a lousy time, it's not age appropriate for the channel's core audience, and the editing can only be described in words the Osbournes would be ashamed to use. My suggestion is to petition Comedy Central to start airing Daria uncut. (See my reasoning under the "Dang Noggin!" thread on this ng). CC accepts e-mails and phone calls only.
