How did you know I was a middle child? The thing is, i'm really not that overlooked. I am rather anti-social towards my family, but aren't we all? Actually, my parents consider me the perfect child.. and i have to admit, i am pretty well behaved. Middle child syndrome had done me well.

That's alright, as you can't have any pudding until you've finished your dinner anyhow, and you haven't eaten your vegetables yet.

I seem to recall that Daria likes scoffing pizza, though in Monster Quinn asks about getting a cheeseless one. Is this just some fashion thing, or does Quinn not like cheese? I've always thought pizza without cheese is a bit pointless, though I used to have a vegan friend who ate it like that, and most pizza places seem used to getting weird requests of that nature.

I suppose the dieting thing would explain it. Cheese is an important source of calcium though, which is something that a lot of people apparently don't get enough of. I don't suppose Quinn is interested in nutrition though, just the bottom line on the scales. Mind you, there was a trading standards survey a while back that showed the "cheese" on most pizzas isn't even cheese, never mind mozarella (sp?), apparently a lot of places use fake cheese made from milk and vegetable fat. I suppose that would still contain calcium though.

Wow! You mean you actually, like, eat food? Besides chocolate & alcohol I mean.

Most jam is jelly really, there's so little fruit in it. I got a jar of Robertson's Marmalade recently and quite frankly it would be better served with ice cream than on toast, it's exactly like orange jelly. It's amazing what manufacturers can get away with. I've also discovered that some ice-cream isn't even made with milk, never mind cream: the cheaper UK brands are made with whey and vegetable fat. How they get away with calling it "ice cream" is a mystery to me. No wonder British food is a standing joke the world over.

Don't worry folks, I'm just working up to a Daria post, having watched "Gifted" for the first (and now, third) time today.

Something like my dad's friend came up with the idea that at Burger King you can order a burger plain (no fixings) you can order it vegetarian (everything but the meat) and you can order a patty whopper (burger without the bun) so he wanted to order a "plain vegetarian patty whopper"

That's another UK/US difference. In the UK if you ask for a "vegetarian burger" you get a proper burger, only the burger bit is not made from meat but a vegetarian equivalent (and most people reckon it tastes much better than the typical fast-food meat burger too). I was very puzzled when I asked for a vegetarian burger in the US and was handed a burger with no burger inside, I thought they must have made a mistake.

A resonable a priori estimate but it may not stand up to the empirical evidence There's really no reason to expect birthdays to be evenly distributed throughout the year. What's interesting is that there are so many people in alt.tv.daria who seem to have birthdays in the same month. It could be that if we were to poll all the A.T.D. participants that the birthdays might not be evenly distributed and they might not be distributed in the same way as the general population. What might account for such a cluster of December babies who all dig Daria and hang out at A.T.D.?

Anyway, happy birthday to all us December Daria fans. Maybe us "DDs" should have a party. We could bake cupcakes and pretend we're popular. But no presents.

I'm quite curious about this actually, as at different times I've heard different claims for when births peak. Some peope say they peak in June, others say September, or the Spring.

I suppose it may partly be affected by holidays, but it's also been suggested that humans might have a natural mating season. I expect it might vary from one climate to another though.

What made you suspect the hard drive? Was it making horrible noises or something? I've never had a standard hard disk go wrong, they're surprisingly reliable for things that spin at 5000rpm with a read/write head poised only microns from the surface of the disk. My Syquest Sparq drive tends to trash disks though, which I suspect is because the disks are removable. The sparq disk cartridges always develop faults after about a month and lose all my data. I'm on my second drive now and it's no better. They sent me a replacement 3-pack of disks with it, and 1 still works, 1 went wrong after a month and lost all the data, and the third one I couldn't even use as it failed its diagnostics straight out of the cling wrap. 67% failure rate. Not bad eh? But I've never had a proper hard disk go wrong, even on machines that have been mistreated by being knocked about whilst running.
