I've just seen Jane's Addition and I've realised what is missing from my life is pizza.

I've kind of lost track of the series 3 schedule and all the threads about it have expired from atd. Was Jane's Addition the finale? It certainly felt like an end of season episode. But the Channel 5 presenter said Daria was on again next week.

Might season 4 be a show about two couples, Jane & Tom and Trent & Daria? That would certainly bring new life to the show, there's only so much mileage in its present format. That peck on the cheek Trent gave Daria seemed significant, and notice that she didn't blush! Either that means she no longer has feelings for him, or else that she's finally become comfortable with him. I guess they could continue on the angst ridden route of having her totally unable to form a relationship, but hopefully she'll sort her head out in series four, and maybe the rest of us will do the same one day.

Probably rereuns 'cause "Jane's Addition" was indeed the season finale.

How could it be, when Trent and Daria aren't a couple? Are you *sure* you watched "Jane's Addition"? You *did* pay attention to their little heart-to-heart at Pizza King, right? ;-)

Or that they're at the "good friends" stage. That little conversation about commitment and so forth was more than just about the multimedia project; it was about *their* non-relationship, and just exactly why it's bound to stay a "non-" for the forseeable future. (Trent needs to do some growing up, for one thing, while Daria has to get some life experience under her belt to match her aggressive maturity.) It's hardly a coincidence that this came about in an episode written by Glenn Eichler, who probably felt he had to put the brakes on the runaway shipper bandwagon. :-)

I've only watched it once so far, but it seemed to me that Trent's motive for being involved in the mulitmedia project was Daria, and their relationship was what he was talking about. But it wasn't clear to me whether Daria realised this until the end, nor whether she just wasn't interested or was simply scared of a relationship when it came to the crunch. I suspect the latter. After all she's always freaked out whenever Jane shows an interest in a guy (hence the belief in some quarters that she's a lesbian). I don't think losing Jane is her main fear really, she just doesn't understand this thing about getting involved with a guy, despite her romantic fantasies about Trent, the closer she comes to getting off with him the more she seems to back off. It's fear of the unknown. That Jane finds it so easy to get on with guys is something that seems to unnerve Daria, it's like watching a friend suddenly showing an ability to talk to foreigners in their own tongue and wondering what the fuck is going on and what lesson you missed at school, that she knows how to do this and you don't.

and Jane. Don't underestimate his love for his sister.

She realized that Trent was currently too irresponsible for her to get involved with. Given Daria's nature, a serious relationship would be what she would be interested in, and she wouldn't want to be in the situation of having to count on someone who would probably let her down in many ways.

I've come to the conclusion that she still likes Trent, and that if he showed signs of becoming more reliable she'd be in his arms in an instant.

I wouldn't say that Jane finds it all that easy ... we've only seen her in three remotely romantic situations since the series began (over a year of her life). It's more that she finds it easier than Daria does.

I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN IT! ARRGH!

I put in a tape and cued it to the proper position. I set the timer to come on at the proper time the next day. I said, "If you guys want to use the VCR, all you have to do is at the end, put my tape back in and turn it off." But can my family follow such simple instructions? Nooooooooo. Hopefully, I'll have to check Paperpusher's... hopefully, it's on tommorrow... and I can see it in another week or so.

I didn't wake up on time to catch the marathon either. My alarm didn't go off. Damn alarms!

I propose a new suggest for an alarm. The new alarm system should be called "the nagging mom".. and it has your mothers voice screaming at you to wake up, instead of normal beeps or music. This new alarm system could have some kind of sensory where it won't stop nagging you until you're up and ready.

"For homesick college students who can't wake themselves up in the morning! It's just like having mom there with you!.. only 3 easy installments of $9.95"

But that's not all..

The best alarm clocks are those old and really loud mechanical thingys. I had one for many years (and I have requested a new one for my birthday which by the way is this Wednesday). When it went off, my heartbeat was immediately up to 180bpm and I was wide-awake. It was so effective that I usually woke up just before it went off out of fear. The internal clock of your body is remarkable. All you need is sufficient motivation for it to wake you at the correct time. MSB

to wake up,

I've found that on those occasions that I need an alarm clock that I simply wake up and turn off the alarm before it goes off. Just impress on your mind before you go to sleep what time you want to wake and--sure enough, you wake up. I don't know how it works, but it does. Unless you're so darn sleepy that you sleep through both your mechanical alarm clock as well as your internal alarm clock in which case you probably need the sleep anyway.

Ah, hey! If you can convince my teachers that I'm not coming to class due to lack of much needed rest.. I'd appreciate that! ;D

i had an alarm clock once that was shaped like a cockerel. it would go "COCKADOODLEDOO!" repeatedly until you pressed a button on its head, whereupon it would say "good morning." the advantage of this was that it was HIGHLY irritating, and damn near impossible to switch off.

<singing> happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear matthias, happy birthday to you! </singing... atd breaths an enormous sigh of relief>

when i was a child i would wake up at 3:30am every night, on the dot, regardless of when i went to bed. it was very annoying.

wake up,

I have a radio alarm. It's tuned to radio1. Zoe ball has much the same effect.

I got one o' them. I tune to 96.9 FM, and put the radio across the room. The morning "personality" on this station is several levels beyond annoying. I have to get up and cross the room to shut him off. Works every time.

I could do the same with the station that plays Howard Stern in the morning, but I'd probably do excessive violence to the radio in shutting it off.

I have to confess that watching _Daria_ seems to have affected the way I eat pizza. I went out for one the other night, and I, um, er, <ahem> didn't use a knife and fork.

Perhaps the rot set in when, eating alone, I bought a slice at Pizza Hut in Meadowhall food court, looked at the plastic cutlery, and thought, "I might as well use my fingers as use these flimsy things..."

http://www.rtguide.beeb.com tells me: "Daria | The Big House | Channel 5 | Saturday 09 October 17:00 to 17:25 ..."

It seemed to me that the conversation between Trent and Daria, at the pizza place, was about far more than the multimedia project. *Perhaps* this is just me projecting remembered conversations from when I was about Trent's age, but the subtext did seem to be about why their relationship would not develop into something other than friendship.
