Um, because breathing helps keep you alive and stuff? Y'know, it would really suck if you're trying to keep alive and decided to stop breathing, because that is kinda vitally important to the whole "keeping alive" thing. I know that's mainly why I keep breathing (that and it's an involuntary action while one is alive).

Not making any sense, you say? You bet your bottom dollar!

And if that's not enough, think of the plants! They need that carbon dioxide we're producing as a by-product of the whole breathing thing. So others are depending on us.

Unless your plants are plastic, that is. In that case, never mind.

Here's a joke mailed to me by the Oracle Service Humor Mailing List. It's exactly about this subject:

A blonde walks into a beauty salon to get a hair cut with headphones on. The hairdresser asks her to take them off for the haircut and she replies "I can't, I'll die." She proceeds to cut her hair and it looks awful.

Six weeks later the same blonde comes in for another haircut. The hairdresser pleads with her "Please take your headphones off - I can make your hair look beautiful. Once again the blonde replies "I can't, I'll die". So she receives another awful haircut.

Six weeks later the blonde show up at the salon and once again the hairdresser says "Please take your headphones off - I can make your hair beautiful if you would just take off the headphones". "I can't, I'll die"

The hairstylist proceeds to cut her hair. While doing so the blonde falls asleep. The hairstylist quickly thinks to herself - I will remove the headphones and replace them before she wakes up, I'll make her hair beautiful. Seconds after doing this the blonde falls off the chair. The hairdresser checked her and she was dead.

Dying to know what was keeping her alive with the headphones on, she places them on her head. She hears............ "Breathe in, breathe out - breathe in, breath out."

Holy crap, this is teaching me a lesson..."never post when you're so tired you're about ready to collapse" -- wait, that's what I'm doing right now. But please, I beg of you, show leniency towards me as I'm just a poor soul who is struggling to keep two eyes open.

that's always me though. this guy in science olympiad (which I show up early at school for because I'm insane) saw me after school and asked if I was awake yet. I told him I was hoping to wake up before it was time to go to bed.

I'm not doing too well.

Well, then, we're doing just fine these days aren't we? Fantastic...I'm managing to live up to my name, except I'm starting to hallucinate more than just Elvis, and you're managing to keep up with me every step of the way. Absolutely wonderful, yes, this is what we definitely want. *rolls eyes* Why don't we create a little support group for those people too tired to have the real world come on in? Oh yes. Come, join this circus. :)

hmm. I won't have this problem till December, when me & every other postal worker goes on a 12 hr/7 day shift to make sure everyone gets their dam christmas cards. And people wonder why we're disgruntled. Or back when my baby was still 'new' and we had to get up & feed him every 3 hrs.

I'm done bitchin' now.

BTW, I'll let you know that I don't contribute to the Christmas Card Problem-- my friends and I all agreed years ago that it was a waste of trees-- a phone call seems much more of a sincere exchange of Holiday Wishes. (And it doesn't give you writer's cramp. :P )

What is it, like 96 days till Christmas or something? (Off the top of my head.) Hope you can make it through the busy season.

Free clue, worth just what you paid for it. ;)

When you start to see things that you are not sure are really there, throw a little rock at them. If the rock passes thru them, they are not there. If they go 'Ouch!', they *are* really there.

This method is not recommended if you only think you are seeing your boss.
