I am proud to annouce, due to the popular demand generated by this survey, I have transcribed the score for "They Must Be Worried" and put it online for atd's viewing and listening pleasure (including the MIDI file generated by the notation program.) Okay, I'll admit, it has been there for about a week and had nothing to do with popular demand. It's at: http://www.magicnet.net/~mrhankey/daria.html The sofware I used had some bugs that wouldn't display the lyrics properly, so they were left out. Also, the patches used in the MIDI file (various string instruments) aren't true to the character's voices. If anyone can doctor them up to sound more true to Daria, Jane, Kevin, and Brittany's voices, let me know. I'd be very intrested to hear the results.

I'd like to note, I voted for Mr. O'Neill and Ms. Barch for "Least Favorite Singer." I had no choice, they were grouped together. If I had a choice, I would have voted for Ms. Barch only.

Off Topic Rant: MTV has pre-empted 120 Minutes in order to show various bits of Spring Break nonsense. If your looking for alternate Sunday evening/Monday morning programming, I suggest "Kickin' It with Byron Allen." Byron Allen is currently kickin' it with Roshumba. Byron just kicked it with David Hasslehoff, before that, Ellen Degeneres....please, somebody shoot me. Even better, somebody shoot Byron Allen. I don't know what he is Kickin' but it isn't "it" and whatever "it" is cannot and shoud not be kicked by Byron Allen.

I actually have to agree with this. Binary (& the rest of the things associated in learning how to code in machine language) is definitely easy when it comes to learning engineering schtuff. Networks, on the other hand, was supposed to be so notoriously difficult that the sheer mention of its name had an almost mystical sort of quality to it.

Ah, thank God I got out by sophomore year's beginning. Now the only thing I truly miss is the physics involved. Damn how I miss that....

I'm doing Physics A level. I'm actually looking forward to that, LOL...

There are three kinds of engineering students:

Group A: Smart enough to survive the math and graduate.

Group B: Not smart enough to succeed, but smart enough to give up early.

Group C: Not smart enough to succeed, but also not savvy enough to realize that it's not going to get any easier.

Group B will only last through freshman year, leaving group A and C to contrast each other, starkly. But group C students will only struggle on through mid-junior year, at which point they will panic and switch majors, ultimately destined for a 6 year+ enrollment and a business or poli-sci degree (if they're lucky).

My EE class started with 76 students, and graduated 7 on time. Some went to the dark side (Computer Science), a few went to Mech-E or Architecture, but many others were slain like serfs by the cruel sword of attrition.

Are you a physics major then? They tackle even more abstract and difficult math than we do, venturing into the domain of linear algebra, tensors, manifolds, wavlet transforms, PDEs and other kinds of sci-fi sounding crap. The worst that I had to choke down was Fourier Analysis. Thankfully, I was able to avoid the little yellow books altogether!!! :-)

This is exaclty what I've seen in my program. Most people who couldn't cut it figured that out fast and got out before getting in over their heads (We only started with 38 and were down to about 25 in the senior class). Most of those in the 'C' group here went to Computer Science/Engineering.

I wouldn't want to go near the math involved in advanced physics unless absolutely necessary. I didn't have much a problem with Fourier or signal processing as a whole (which is where I learned it). The most problems I've had are with complex wavefunctions and other quantum physics phenomenon.

She overtly shuns interaction with the other students in my class. She has several times commented that she finds the class a waste of her time - despite my attempts to explain the value of the skills we talk about and practice in class. In her defense, she does put up with a lot of mocking by some of the other students in class, and so I can see here she would have a low level of trust when it comes to participating in class activities (which she occasionally does not). Did they teach you how to do four-function arithmetic with it though? It's only when it's applied, as in computing, that it becomes interesting, two's-complement arithmetic and all that. Like, computers actually subtract by adding, which I found kind of mind-blowing at first (though maybe only because I'm not very good at maths). We weren't taught any of this at school though, I only learned it at university.

Anyway, if you find binary boring, you should try base one (unary), it's even worse! According to the alt.folklore.computers FAQ there are also fractional bases, though it doesn't say what use people have found for them.

2-port networks? That's not that bad compared to trying to find the S-,Z- and Y-parameters of 3, 4 and 5 port microwave networks. The math is not easy to follow under any circumstances. I wish binary was all I had to worry about ;)
